blackstar

where the header tubes came down on the drivers side, i had to notch the skid plate, just about 1/2 " to prevent the headers from touching the plate. AWESOME quality, just bolted right in other than shaving it a little.

yeah, thanks......my next step is putting in the ion springs i just bought, the bilstein hd's will be on there way soon, with this combination im being told about .5" to .75" of drop ........... but my issue is ground clearance where i live, lowering my car 1 inch would just about screw me. i live in the sticks, my driveway is dirt, my road has massive potholes, so dropping to the ground aint gonna happen anytime soon, but yes it wuld look f'in sweet.....

Yeah, don't "slam" the car, I think the ride height on the 3rd gens are good right out of the factory, just need some meatier tires to fill out the wheel arches.

is that the factory rear spoiler?
blackstar
07-06-2009, 04:13 PM
yeah, the rear hatch spoiler is original, came on the car when i bought it, also, the front bug shield came with when i got the car. ****** i hit a tiny bird this weekend, and cracked the front bugshield, i glued it back together, but now im gonna start looking for a new shield. after i took the shield off, my car looked naked / like all other legacy's, so i really like the front bug shield / or the appearance of it.

Noticed any issues w the bump steer kit? I saw a bunch on nasioc w issues (ie coming out of the knuckles making noise etc ) . I want them w as low as my car is but hesitant atm
blackstar
09-22-2010, 08:52 PM
actually I did not have any major issues, but I thought I was starting to get a click / clack noise coming from the ball joints, I worry, so I installed a new set of ball joints, cleaned the knuckle to remove rust, and I have not heard any noises since. I did leave the outer tie rod ends in though, check them all the time - seem to be good. I am not sold on the anti-bump kit, but have heard a lot of positive's about the ALK (anti-lift kit) whiteline sales

The bumpsteer kit is really only necessary when you're lowering the macpherson strut suspension over 2", and that's really if you're anal about your suspension settings like on a hardcore race car...
For street use where you really just need =1* of camber and 0 toe, it's optional IMO.
I wished I had a BH wagon though.

is it difficult to prep those wheels?
blackstar
09-23-2010, 01:18 PM
yes they can be very time consuming, getting in between the spokes. I was very lucky though and got to use a media (sand) blaster to knock down the majority of the wheel surface, so it went pretty quick. I used two full coats of self-etching primer on each wheel, giving them enough time to dry between. final coat was just a semi-gloss black...... I didn't do a clear coat cause Im still deciding on the color, pretty sure Im gonna go with a Graphite-ish color.
BEN - anytime you wanna trade buddy, I'll swap :smt023

is it difficult to prep those wheels?
I just did mine, and it took about 1.5 to 2 hours on each wheel of sanding. If I do it again I will probably get them sandblasted because it is alot of work.

im still debating what color to make my wheels, they are for the winter. yes, ill look into media blasting, seems the easy way out!
any suggestions on the color? im on a silver bd...
blackstar

black is good, sucks for dirt tho, I think it looks okay, but I am going with a gunmetal / graphite / charcoal color, thats on a silver BH

Did you get the suspension installed? Have any pics? I'm looking for a drop very similar what you explain. Did you have to buy Impreza spring perches for the Ion Springs?
Thanks

I'm finishing my taxes in the next few weeks to come up with the monies to buy the Bilsteins NEW from
Tirerack, I already have the springs, got them about a year ago in a group buy on Sl-i. KAG (had a 3rd gen sedan) and
I helped him install the springs on a set of Bilsteins - no problems at all, and I got to check it out a few weeks later once they were installed on the car, and the car rode like a dream . you could probably find pictures if you search his name - he had a picture of his car (lowered) next to mine (stock). He used stock perches from a BE legacy, and I'm going with some stocky KYB mounts on my BH - could go STi/group N upper mounts but I wanted to keep a little road noise dampening
Sucks I had to wait this long, but finally things are coming together and soon enough I'll have my suspension set where I've wanted it from the beginning. Next step is to install my 17's / or get a new set -17x7.5, roll the fenders and setup the tire fitment- 225"s if it fits or 215/50/17.

I found his pics, they were a little deceiving because of the lighting in the pics...
I noticed you are putting on a Baja Turbo Hood, 03-04 Front Bumper, and JDM Mudguards. Have you already installed these?
Which JDM mudguards did you get? Pic? I have some as well and I noticed that the rears don't align with the bumper and I will likely have to heat them up and mold them to the shape of our USDM bumper (I have a sedan).

You will love those bilsteins, and I've never had ION springs b4, I would have loved to have some for my car...
KAG had this same spring/strut setup on his sedan, same generation as yours and he loved it.

Finally I got a weekend to spend some time on the car - here's how it sits right after installation, I'm sure a few hundred miles later they'll settle a lil bit more - My initial impressions - F'IN Awesome ! :smt023 The ride quality over OE struts is unreal, as for the height, I can see a drop but not too drastic, though I didn't notice when getting into my car, when riding down the road it feels like your ass is right close to the ground.

I like what you've said about your suspension (strut & Spring combo) considering I'm not looking to drop mine, if at all, but I am looking for an increase in stability. You made a comment saying you feel like your right on the ground", so what you're saying is it's a very stiff set up? I'd like to keep it a smooth ride you know.
Can't wait to see those retrofits.
