Okay, so long story short I have a stripped out header hole...
A year or so ago when I got my borla header I went to put it on and, of course, the last bolt I tried taking off snapped the stud flush with the head. I tried drilling it out, lubing it up, heating and quenching, etc. The whole deal. Finally after messing around with the drill I got the piece of stud out, but unfortunately I made the hole a little sloppy from punching from the side. I chased the threads that were left and felt there was plenty of meat left to hang on to so I put in a new stud, put on the nut, tightened it up and everything was fine. unfortunately I had my clutch replaced last fall which required people to take the header off and a few weeks ago when I had my head gaskets done it was taken off yet again. By people that don't care that I screwed up the hole... So I had it up in the air putting my new front end links on last night and my dad noticed that the nut was missing off of that stud. No biggie, I'll just put a new one on. I tried installing it tonight and realized it probably loosened and fell off because the whole stud was loosening and backing out. I tried tightening it, and the internal threads are beat. Damn dealer...
So, anybody have any ideas? I was thinking my only choice would be using a slightly larger hardened bolt that would drive in flush. Maybe stick a spring washer in to allow a little thermal expansion/contraction? I am open to any suggestions. I really don't want to have to buy a new head just because a hole is reamed. And yes, it does leak a little unless all 3 studs are tight. :-?
