so i was looking at my struts sizing up my install of my 07 sti struts when they show up, and have the weirdiest feeling there's no way to get the brake line off the old strut is there?

I used a hack saw blade to *carefully* cut a slot in the tab and then used pliers to peel back the metal, allowing my brake line to be freed.
I used a zip tie to refasten the brake line to the new struts that did not have a tab. If they have a tab there, then you should use it. Unfortunately that means taking the brake line off of the caliper and then threading it through.
Did I say *carefully*? I meant use EXTREME CARE. I am not responsible if you cut your brake line.
Good time to switch to braided lines if you ask me, since I am now wishing I had when I had everything apart.......

You can cut the tab on your new struts and bend the metal back, unclip your brake lines from your old struts, install the struts, slide the brake line in, bend the metal back up, hit it with some paint to prevent rust, voila.

Well the problem with the lines is I was ganna get some 06 wrx 4 pots in do time and was ganna go braided then however you all bring forth good points. Just matters what they run price wise and how hard they are to find for a legacy.
As it is she's going to be a whole different beast with sti struts and springs. Just don't know if I want the group n hats or not idk if they are worth the 200 bucks.

I've done it both ways. For my RS I disconnected the brake lines, then had to bleed the whole system. For my Outback I just cut the tabs with a hacksaw and used zip ties. I'd recommend you cut the tabs, makes it way easier.

You need 04-07 top hats and rs spring perches if you're going to run sti struts and springs on a bd I was told.

Can you compess the springs by jacking them into the top hats already installled in the car?

You *could* but it's not the best idea if the jack slips and the strut goes slamming into the ground, or your foot.

The former kiwi makes a good point.
I found someone with a compressor so I'm having him do it.
Should be a fun project.
