Antenna replacement

My power antenna broke and I want to replace it. I was just thinking of getting a universal antenna from walmart or something. I wanted to know is it pretty easy taking out the power antenna? Any help on this would be great thanks.

Don't think there's much difference. Got the big nut on the outside and one on the inside, plus the cable, the power wire/ground plug, and the water drain tube.

Took me all of 5 minutes to do my BD's and I'd never taken one out of any car before.

Yes, but wagon or sedan? The part numbers are different, btw. I have never seen a Sedan one, so I'm not sure how different they are.

You can just get the mast separately from a Subaru parts vendor. Getting to it is easy whether it be a wagon or a sedan. On the left side of the trunk/cargo area the spare tire jack door, you can access the motor from there.

Its pretty easy to replace.. I removed mine when I first got the car. I couldn't take the sound of the power antenna turned. I also welded up my antenna hole and installed a hidden antenna in my roof liner.

I did this to my dad's 97 GT sedan, works great. got it from autozone but looks like the same one you can get from really anywhere.

Some universal power mast replacements don't fit right. Like the one available from Autozone. It's supposed to replace just a broken mast, slides into the motor reel.. but the plastic tape is too thick and won't reel up correctly.

Wow SpeedmanRC that shit looks pimp. My bro in law bought a cheap one at walmart for his car and said that the reception is bad. How is the reception on that one? Also did you have to cut your wire, the one that goes all the way to the cd player?

Where can I find one of those hidden antennas? My cousin has a 2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS and I noticed he doesnt have an antenna. He told me it was hidden. I think I might just go that route. Hows the reception on those hidden antennas?

hidden antennas are basically just an extension of the antenna cable inside the "mast" which has been rerouted to either the front or rear windshield. It's a cable tucked up under the headliner, or it's actually integrated into the glass.

If you google hidden antenna you'll find plenty of universal kits.
