Door won't stay locked

Every time I close the passenger door on my BK it unlocks, even after I have locked it (either manually or with the power locks.) Probably the impact of the door closing (and I'm not closing it hard, just normally) is knocking the latch back to unlock position. Anyone had this issue before and was able to solve it?

hold the handle up when you close the door, i dont know why it does this

look inside the door maybe is loose the actuator from the arm (have a clamp whit screws) hope this help

I've never had that particular problem although one time on my RS pass door I had the "actuator rod" (I made up that term) get stuck and the door wouldn't latch. You could push it closed and it wouldn't close because it was stuck in the lock position I guess. I ended up pulling the door panel off in the parking lot and wiggling around the "actuator rod" until it was realigned. You might have to pull back some of the clear plastic that coats the inside of the door.

Dude you should of just asked me.. I have a 95 wagon just like you and mine does the same for the driver and passenger door...


But get this... The rear doors you don't need to hold the handle up to lock..

I think it's really annoying I don't know what year they stopped doing this but it seems like all Japanese cars back in that year had the hold up handle to lock thing :smt012

Outbacks don't have that issue since when they came out they switched the way how the door locks.. No more needing to hold the handle up to keep the door locked.

It's a security fix so that you don't lock your keys in the car, All cars i have been in have this. You need to either lock it and keep the door handle up and close it, or lock it from the outside with the key/remote. The rear doors are standard without it since they most likely don't have key-holes.
I thought all cars came like that?

I know what you're talking about - I think I was around a BF and a Honda Accord that had that system, but I don't think my car has this. I can open the door, lock it, and close the door, and it stays locked except for the passenger front door where the latch moves ever so slightly (seemingly from the impact of the door closing) and knocks it unlocked. I guess I'll have to get into the door and take a look - I'm almost afraid of messing it up more since now I've gotten used to waiting until my passenger has closed the door before locking, problem solved.

Thats how cars used to be back in the day. I guess Subaru carried it over into the 90's but there's no way they are like that now. My 97 Outback doesn't do that.

But wait!!! I have another story that's going to mix things up.. I remember locking my keys in the car when I had my 1995 impreza L I had to call AAA to come get the door unlocked which took all but 10 seconds at the most.

So hmmm.. And I know for sure I did not have to hold the handle up..


I forget who said it but I think it was Jey, I hate waiting for the passenger to close the door because they get out 5 times slower then I do so I'm just standing at the driver's door waiting for them to close it as well.

Yup - in fact when I hold the handle the door doesn't even close at all.

Nevermind, read the top...Sounds like wear and tear on the handle/lock switch itself.

1996 must be the last year they have the setup like that... my 96 Outback you have to hold the handle up for the front doors to stay locked.

I think 96 was also the last year that they just used the driver's door lock knob to control the power locks.
