My transmission is a 4EAT ('97 Legacy L). Quite recently (about 4 days ago), I start hearing this light grating/grinding sound from the front/middle. It is at it's highest at low speeds. At high speeds, it completely vanishes.
I have one person telling me it's the driveshaft, another telling me it's the front differential, & another telling me it's the CV joints (this of course, cannot be because I installed the new CVs).
If someone can please help me out, it would greatly be appreciated.

That could potentially be a wheel bearing. Or the CVs even though you say its not.

If it only happens while you're turning it could still be the CV joints - did you use remanufactured axles?

It could be torque bind? Try pulling the AWD fuse temporarily to see if it goes away.

I've replaced both the front wheel bearings with brand new ones after painfully figuring out that I cannot press them in. LOL!
The left CV is remanufactured but the right one totally new. The sound is a pulsating slight grinding noise/feeling coming from the front center.

If it only happens while you're turning it could still be the CV joints - did you use re-manufactured axles?

It could be torque bind? Try pulling the AWD fuse temporarily to see if it goes away.
Only my front left CV is re-manufactured but it isn't clicking like it was before I replaced it.
I'll try pulling the fuse though & see if that is the problem.

Could even be a brake dust shield that is now rubbing. I know I bumped into mine when I did my axles.

That was where the grinding noise was coming from. Now I just have to figure out the problem with the vibration.

It IS a wheel bearing! LOL! My left front one. Now, question, could that bearing have gone bad due to misalignment?

Not sure, but it could go bad due to improper axle nut torque spec/procedure when you were changing it all out.
