I have yet to figure this one out but my 12 volt outlet doesn't seem to be working very well. I have a phone charger, iPod charger and used a friends radar scanner. All of them get some amount of electricity to them which I can tell by an indicator light. The phone charger does it's job but is very slow. The iPod charger won't charge my iPod. the radar scanner makes a low humming noise but nothing shows up on the screen. I know that they all work because I have tried them in other cars.

The wires are connected to the outlet and appear to have power going through them. Could the outlet itself have gone bad? or is there something else I should look for?

Get a multimetere and check the voltage and amperage.
If your not getting 12v and at least 1amp then you have a problem from the fuse box to your outlet.

Try a new fuse and try cleaning the terminals inside the 12v outlet.

You could just run a large gauge wires straight to the battery, and setup a relay so it only goes hot with the key in.

Turns out it was just blown fuse. Didn't think to check it because the one charger was working.
