Well, you'll have to block the head where the EGR pipe goes.. it's an M16 x 1.5, so get a bolt, washer and block that.

Then you'll also have to block the 4 vacuum lines that go to the EGR valve.. that should be about it. Not very difficult to do. :smt023

what about deleting cel code on obd11... i have 98 legacy outback and i installed jdm engine and didnt care for egr so i took it out but my question is how do i get rid of the code? i heard people using resistor or would using JDM ECU work? would jdm ecu plug in our harness?

what code are you throwing?

On a 98 I believe it checks for EGR flow using the MAP sensor and watches for changes in the intake vacuum when the EGR solenoid is commanded on/off. Good luck faking that.

You may want to keep the EGR. You might get excessive knock or ping during light throttle cruise... If it's working and not setting any codes, you won't gain performance by deleting it. Unless it's in the way or is hampering your car from running... I don't see any reason to remove it.

code showing was the egr sensor... i have no choice cause i have the jdm engine and im not about to drill the head... which i tried to and i failed so that is not an option.... is there maybe a ressistor i can plug to remove the cel code... i will make a egr block off plate later but for not everything is plugged... i need help i got like 3 tickets already for no inspection..

No. EGR sends a variable signal to the ECU.

Why can't you tap an exhaust manifold or further down in the exhaust? That's where most cars tap for EGR.

when my HGs went on my 98 outback i looked into a JDM motor, my mechanic said you could just swap over the manifolds (i think is what he said, it was back in last september so not 100% sure) from the usdm motor to the jdm motor. i ended up just regasketing the motor.

Intake manifolds can be very tricky.

If you have a Phase 1 engine, you can only put a phase 1 intake manifold on it. If you have a phase 2 intake manifold, it depends on a number of factors if you can use it or not, especially if it is cable or digital throttle, if it will swap. :p

But, if you were gonna throw in a phase 1 engine, then yeah, you would have been fine. If you had found a DOHC non avcs engine, you probably could have swapped over sensors and stuff and used your stock ECU and everything. I personally would have tried to find a 2.0 turbo and swapped it, but that's just me. :p
