changed my oil yesterday today my valve cover gasket and or rear main seal exploded and all the oil I put in is all over my garage floor

nope checked and the filters tight to and the car runs so the head gaskets are fine

to the full mark about 4.5 quarts and when i got the thing home it wasnt even showing on the dip stick. i only went like 5 miles

somewhere bettween the oil filter being off and being on the gasket destroyed it self, i have never seen that much oil come out of a bad filter seal though

I buy Supertech and Bosch filters. If you ever look at the inside of a Supertech it's made to better construction than a Fram. And you can get them at Walmart for $3.

Fram filters have nasty sharp edges around the interior, rough finishing (hello little metallic particles being introduced to your engine) and paper filters. BLARGH!

I try to buy Bosh if I can but my current filter is a STP filter which will be changed when I get back along with a oil sample taken.

No, I use Supertech filters that I buy AT Walmart. You can buy Fram, Motorcraft filters there too, but the supertech ones have the nice anti-drainback valves too.

supertech = champion and they're a cheap brand. horrible bypass springs
oem filter are nice, except the new nissian made ones are horrible
bosch is ok, not the best, good material, bad bypass springs
i personal will only run Wix

I cut a supertech open recently. They're as good as Bosch on the inside. And don't forget, AJM did the same analysis a long time ago (on this board).

lol.. I think subaru switched suppliers for oil filters after some type of issue? Or that might of been the fuel filter.. but nevertheless just because it says SUBARU does not always mean it's going to be 1000% better then a lesser brand like Bosh or whatever.

The old black ryoki Japan oil filters are nice, the new blue ones are made in the USA by fram I think, and the jury is still out on that one...

Did you check your filter base to make sure you removed the old gasket from the 1st filter before putting the new one on? I've seen people leave the old gasket on by accident, only to drive off and loose there oil in the process. It happens.



As far as filters go:
I've used K&N as well as Bosch and Fram. Factory Toyota, K&N, or Fram on the XB and Bosch and Fram in the BK. I usually use Fram to flush out the system after 3-5 changes, then go back to a better filter.


My opinion: The K&N is a bit pricier.... That's all. My car never complains... not yet. :smt023

+1 Purolator are the best by far! I use Powerflo which is made by Purolator, only cheaper, same part numbers too.. $3!
