so im seriously thinking bout swappin my ej25 from my 99gt for a ej20 turbo, but i just have one question i looked thru the engine post but if i buy a short throw for my 2.5 will it fit the swap or would i have to buy another one?? also would a stock 2.5 tranny fit with a 2.0 motor?
thanks

A short throw shifter bolts to the transmission. Not the engine. Your tranny will fit the engine.

so if i swapped for the ej20 instead of my 2.5 i could still use my stock tranny? and it would bolt up to the smaller motor??

and if your asking this question then i think you need to hold off on the swap and read up on the subject.

*smaller displacement

I was gonna say what the heck is a leter. The bore is the same on all EJ motors, along with the size of the motor itself. It's the stroke that changes the displacement/compression.

gotcha well i had a civic before and the reason i am double checking is cuz a b series in a honda wont fit a d series and a k series wont fit etc etc and i was told subarus are like "legos' so thats why i was asking and plus if i did swap its the motor and tranny and i wanted to know if i bought a short throw for my stock tranny if it could be used on a different one and i think after readin all these posts i have concluded that i can so thanks guys

wrong! outside physical size is the same, so all the trannies should work on any EJ, however the bore is considerably different from 2.0 to 2.5

Just be forewarned that while a Honda engine swap is pretty much plug and play as far as wiring goes, a Subaru swap, N/A to Turbo, is NOT.

yeah so i have been told lol i mean if and when i do swap im not doing the wiring myself im really close with a mechanic so im sure if worst comes to worst his shop can do the wiring, but the swap isnt gunna come til prob spring of next year or at earliest winter time and even still i want to build the motor to handle the boost and plus i like more HP :)
and as usual thanks to everyone whose had something useful to say
