JDM Engines head gasket too?

I just did a swap a couple weeks ago.. got a nice JDM engine, EJ25D.. I believe it's a '97 engine.. super clean, like ridiculously clean, sounds so smooth and runs really smooth too.

Do these engines have the dreaded headgasket issue as well? I hope not :( I'm guessing there's probably 100,000km or so on this engine which isn't too bad.

I used this new type of coolant too.. it's yellow, not green.. would that make any difference? Apparently this new type of coolant is safer for the animals.

I know of quite a few JDM EJ25's that popped their head gaskets. Doesnt seem to be as big of an issue with the cooler temperatures we get here but it definately still happens in the '97 to '04 period.

yea I believe ALL phase I EJ35D's have the dreadful head gasket problem

I've got a JDM Phase I EJ25 that I'm doing head gaskets on as we type. I'll take a picture of the factory gaskets when I pull them to show the difference, but I'm under the impression that if it's a Phase I EJ25, it has dinky head gaskets.

Big question is though - did you HAVE to do them because they blew out or are you doing it as a preventative measure?
