ok so as of late my 02 has been having some studderin' problems when I first start it in the mornings, and when i put it in drive and step on the gas, it feels like it takes a minute for the engine to catch...?

last night the gas light came on and i still had 1/2 tank of gas?

now the fiance calls me today and says the car is having problems starting that it turns over, it just wont stay running, and you have to start it 2 or 3 times to get it running...

anyone have a suggestion where to start???

no codes that i know of, its a 02 "L" with 115k head gasket and all major engine gaskets where replaced at 78k oil changes every 5k

When's the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Also - it's possible that your fuel pump/sender unit is on the way out, esp. if the low fuel light comes on and you know you have a half-tank left. Does the gauge read correctly?

ok so now there is a little pinging noise coming from the front end when i step on the gas, and only when I step on the gas?

fuel filter, plugs and wires, and checking the ohms on the fuel pumps are on the 2 do list

Definitely sounds like it isn't getting fuel. I would have thought knock sensor until you said the fuel light is messed up too. Check out the sending unit, replace the filter, etc.

knock sensor???

what are the problems when that goes bad?

wouldn't I get a cell for that?

Start with the fuel pump. Don't worry about the knock sensor. You need to figure out why your fuel light is coming on when you still have gas in the tank.

I believe so. When my knock sensor went my car through a CEL. It definitely sounds like your car is not getting enough fuel. I agree with these guys ^ service your fuel system. To be sure check your plugs for signs of your car running lean (blistered white insulators on the plugs).

I'd check the fuel filter first since it's easier and cheaper to replace, when was that last changed? After that I'd put in some Chemtool B12 or Seafoam in your gas tank. This question was asked but you didn't answer, is the fuel gauge reading correctly?

its back to normal now.... still some hard starts and the pinging noises but the gas gauge is all better!
its a little slow to rise, but its always been slow to rise.

the fuel filter.... um i dont know when it was changed, its being changed this week though..

the only thing that I have done different with the car as of late was last oil change the dealer put in some lucas fuel system cleaner and some of that "restore" stuff in the silver can.

im going to check the oil sit. out tonight that might explain the pinging, mabye they over filled it or under filled it or something.

My gas gauge has always been slow to rise after getting gas. Does anyone else have this issue with their Subaru? Is this common or is my sending unit on the way out :smt017

This has been happening with my car for as long as I have had it. It also happens on my ex-gf's 03 WRX. It's just a Subaru thing. Nothing to worry about.

Yeah I have never understood why the hell it always rises so slow... Just a Subie thing I guess. Sometime I will go three different places after getting gas and it will still be rising
