remove rear bumper on BD? need info.

I'm removing the rear bumper on my BD.. so far, I have the 4 main rear bumper beam bolts out, and the 2 10mm bolts per side out.. however.. seems like there must be some other trick to getting it off. Either that.. or I'm missing some bolts somewhere.

Anyone care to give me some more info about what I may be missing?

Anyone got any ideas how easily it should slide off?

Am i missing any clips or anything that would still be holding it on?

There were (2) 12mm bolts on each side of the bumper, and (4) 17mm bolts holding the bumper beam in.. which was under the rubber plugs in the back.

theres 4 12mm bolts sitting under the taillights (2 each side) that hold the upper support on

Do they hold the plastic cover to the beam, or the beam to the car?

Why the hell does the FSM not say anything about this?

Doesnt really make sense why they should have any bolts there since I already got the 4 large bumper beam bolts out. What exactly do these bolts hold?

Also, look underneath (Near exhaust) and you should see some more clips. Bumper should come off. Why would you remove the whole beam? The cover comes off without removing that. I'm guessing your swapping that out, or just working extra.

I think its easier to just pull the whole bumper out with the beam.. as opposed to taking off all those stupid easy to break plastic clips and screws.. etc. Just like how the front bumper is WAY easier to just pull off with the beam.

So.. if i just want to remove the whole beam / bumper.. i'm assuming I don't need to get to all these clips / 12mm bolts you are talking about under the lights? The FSM just mentions the ones i did so far.. but.. still seems to be holding on.

Okay so i checked under the tail lights.. yeah, don't even know why i did that. Nothing there. This is a SEDAN btw.

So.. not sure where else to check really.. these are the instructions per FSM:

However.. where would 'STEP 3' be located?

Step 3 says to remove 'Rear bumper beam (upper) attaching nut' .. where would this be located?

Anyone ever done this? Doesnt seem like it should be this hard.. its just locating the damn bolts that I don't know where they are??

I just did this in January when I bought my legacy. I knew I should have done a DIY but it's one of those things that you think of after you do it. Took me 4 hours to figure it out without instructions.

There should be one right above the exhaust tip. You have to remove the exhaust from the rubber bracket to get to it. It almost looks like its just to hold the trim on but it holds it to the car too.

There should be two in each of the wheel wells. Two behind each tail light and I think that's it.

Where are the ones behind the tail light? I didn't see anything when i pulled the tails off. Yours a sedan?

It is a sedan. I sent you a PM.

You have to pull the trunk liner back a bit. You should see them underneath the rear quarter extension pieces.

good luck with those little interior clips. They break very easily.

Its really easy. I don't know if I have any pictures.. I will have to look later. You just pull back the rear liner by the lights a bit.. and you will see these weird spikey looking threads with a nut on them. I think there is 2 per side if I remember correctly. Just undo the nut from those threads and the bumper will come off. Make sure to get the corner fasteners as well.
