View Full Version : possible thrust bearing?

hey guys recently my 97 lgt has been squeaking little when i press down on the clutch. i figured it was my belts. but the reason they squeak a little is because the crank shaft pulley(harmonic balancer) will shift out a little making the belts a tad off center. which causes them to squeak. and from my knowledge, crankshafts have thrust bearings that keep the crank from moving in and out.
could my thrust bearing maybe be wearing? if so how severe of a problem is this?

check your slave cylinder first. the rod needs to be lubed sometimes if you hear a squeaking when you press on the clutch pedal.

Before I got my new clutch I would have a chirping sound with the clutch out in neutral. As soon as I would put my foot on the clutch (barely move it) it would stop squeaking. That was the thrust bearing. It gets replaced with a new clutch. So if what I said sounds like what you have, no it ins't a big deal. Yes it is annoying. :mad: Yes it is embarrassing at autocross. :oops: It sounds like you may have a different issue tho. Is the petal itself squeaking or something under the hood?

i know it was a belt. well from the start the belt was bad, but i had a friend press the clutch down for me a little bit and the squeek on the belt just gets louder. so i took the belt off(a/c) now i have no squeeking. the whole crankshaft shifts. and i thought the bearing you replace when doing a clutch is called a throwout bearing?

i know how to fix it. drop in a boosted ej18 or ej22 or whichever one you changed your mind to now lol :grin:

well then i wouldnt worry about this one then. beat on it hatder so it blows up and gives you a reason to swap it
