Will these tires fit without rubbing?

I recently lost my summer car so my subie has to take over the mileage for the remainder of summer. I currently have winterforces on my snowflakes so I need something that's a cheap summer tire.

I have a set of 6 spoke RS wheels they will be mounted on. I've been told they are 16x7's so I'm sure they can fit 215's or 225's. My car is a 97 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT

My question is will the 6 spokes wrapped in 225's fit with no rubbing? I've searched nasioc and legacygt.com but I've heard mixed results. And not too many people have 16's with 225's. They've all got 17's.

My last summer tires were 225's on my 17" rotas. (225/45-17) and they rubbed bad in the rear and clipped the front fenders under hard turning and quick elevation changes (ie. autocrossing). I ended up rolling the rear fenders, which made all the rubbing go away on the back, but there was really nothing I could do with the front so I ditched those and got some 215/45-17's for this summer and I have been fine. With 16" rims I'm not sure if you would or would not run into the same issues. Your suspension also plays into it quite a bit. If you have stock springs and struts (like I did) there is a lot of play (especially after 100k miles), maybe stiffer springs would have resolved my rubbing in the front.

You also have to take into account that not all tires are created equal in terms of dimensions. A Fuzion ZRi at 215/45-17 fits on my rim differently than my Sumitomo 215/45-17. The sumitomo has a sidewall that is almost parallel to the rim and my Fuzions were tapered from the shoulder to the rim. That's because the Fuzions were more narrow bead-to-bead. If you stretch the fit to go on the rim, you can buy yourself room at the shoulder, but you might have to play with tire pressure to figure out where the best pressure will be for optimal tread life and that can be counter intuitive.

I was going to recommend the Fuzion ZRi's to you, but I checked on tirerack and it has the same performance as the SPT and the SPT is quite a bit cheaper. Same wear rating as well. You must have done your research. SPT all the way man.

Yeah my car has 175k and I'm not even sure when the struts were replaced. I was told by the previous owner that they were replaced but he didn't know when.

Rolling fenders probably won't be an option. A small amount of rust is forming from both sides. I know the offset of the wheels are 55, I think???

Yeah I did a little :lol: At 69 bucks a piece they are a steal. I just can't see spending more for less of a tire. But if they don't fit properly there's no sense in buying them. Thanks for trying though.

My car never did any better with 225's than with 215's. For the power my car makes, I don't think getting the widest tire possible even matters. And if I was worried that much about using that 1/2 inch more of tire, I would do full suspension first to make sure that I was using every bit of them.

I meant that I would have to pay more for 215's than 225's. For 215/50/16's there are less tires to choose from and the cheapest tire is $84.

I'm not too worried about the size difference of 225 and 215. The price is what I'm going for.

Those will rub. The size of the SPTs are like the Kumho MXs I have, the Kumhos run a little bigger than most other 225/50/16s and they rubbed all around.

You can always go 205/55/16 - that's what I run on my 6-spoke RS wheels, and it's only $5 more per tire on Tirerack.

I like the fuzions at first, but now since i've put some miles on it. I think they suck. they make start making noise around the slowest turns and not enough grip to hold me in place. For the price i can't complain, but performance wise isn't all that great.

RS wheels with 225/50-16 Falken 912s (some tires are wider than others) fit no problem on my 98 GT, even when it was completely stock. Worst case scenario you need to "clearance" the spring perch or the fender lip slightly. Even a wide 225 on +45 wheels wouldn't have taken much fender rolling.

Don't ever buy Nitto Neo Gens then. I bought my summer wheels with beat Fuzions on them and after I bought the Nittos and put them on I missed the bald Fuzions haha.

Forgot about this thread. Ended up selling my RS wheels in favor of some Rota SDR's. 17x7.5. Also went with some Dunlop SP Sportmaxx tires in 215/45/17 since I didn't think 225's would fit quite right. But that's okay. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.
