ok. ive been meaning to do this for awhile but now that its painted and closer to what i want i figured id post some pics.
my car started life as a blue plain jane 95 lsi. it went through 3 owners. first one backed into a trailer on one side. the 2nd hit a pole on the other. and the 3rd hit a concrete barrier in winter with the passenger side of the car... what i got was a 2.2 auto ugly duckling that needed some tlc. my dad and i decided it would be perfect for my first car

how it was when i got it august of 2006

so we started.
after fixing some suspension and putting replacement rims on it was drivable till the 2.2 stopped breathing. we swapped in a 2.5 which blew a head gasket. while fixing the head gasket we swapped in a 97 lgt 5spd drivetrain

we found a 98 lgt that was t-boned by a metro transit bus and was totaled.

most of the body parts went to my car and the engine went im my moms 99 sus
so heres what it looked like before paint.

and even rust under my passenger side rear quarter glass

so here goes the paint. i cut and welded new quarters onto my car. learning to weld along the way. i kept pics of that but cant seem to find them :smt012
the paint booth: a outdoor car shelter from menards set up in my garage

Primer: i went with a different look and lost the door handles.. ive always liked the way cars have looked when they shave them so i decided why not.

Wow! Looks like you've put in a lot of time into it. Nice work. A drop and some wheels would really set it off.

ok so.. where ARE they?! lol
sure i can tell its the first time you've painted but its got a cool effect and the color makes it stand out from all the rest. keep up the good work!

thanks guys! yeah the black-ish streak was visible in the paint can when i mixed it and for some reason it kinda separated in my gun while i was spraying so some parts have that stripe look lol.
the door handles i cut patches out of a spare set of doors and welded them up and put an actuator in. the drivers door is wired to my security system. i push 2 buttons at once and it pops open. the other 3 doors open by pushing 3 different push buttons mounted in my center console  i am lookin at lowering and some rims. but the engines burning oil so im gonna tackle that first

Good job man.. wish i could come over your place to re-spray my car! haha. Why does it have the black-ish streaks.. just from not overlapping proper.. or what? Looks good either way! great work!

only to metal in spots where there was surface rust :smt010 and on the patches. the rest was scotch brite pads. and many many hours of making my arm sore
il be redoing some stuff after im out of college. im goin for auto body this fall. hopin to get my hands on some skirts and possibly a jdm trunk lid. and somethin for a more unique hood. havent decided though.
thanks for the compliments!!
paintings fun but doing it yourself you know where EVERY seam is in your patches or light spots in the paint are. its hard to be completely satisfied lol.

That "striped" look is due to not reducing enough or cross hatching when laying down coats. Either way, good job for your first. :smt023

:smt006 This is true. I've been a heavy critic of my own work... kinda like my own worst enemy
