I just got Kyb gr2s and ground control lowering springs for the 93-01 impreza, that i want to put on my 97 legacy.

are the coil springs suppose to sit this high

and does this piece have to be modified to fit the coil adjuster in place or does it just sit on top of it?
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/07/0716091353-1.jpg

the piece of paper that came with it says to "remove upper spring perch and cut stock bump stop in half"

if anyone can help with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks a ton

The upper spring perch is the metal plate (bowl) that sits under your conical washer + top hat. You want to remove all of that, take the bump stop off and cut it in half.

no those collars should slide down and stop where the lower spring perch is. I've put ground control sleeves on impreza kyb agxes and didn't have a problem.

Those are 12" 225# springs and raise the car about an inch the way they're set.

okay thank you, i am guessing i am going to have to grind down the spot in the pic that i showed in order to get the sleve to slide down to the spring perch. would i be able to cut the spring perch in order to get the adjusting nut all the way down, the gold adjuster dosent sit all the way down because the spring perch is angled. would i be able to cut the angled part off so it sits down further (so they look like yours)

Hold on - are these KYB GR2's for the Impreza or for a Legacy? If they're for a Legacy, stop, take them back and swap them out for the Impreza struts. I'm guessing the GC spring/sleeves are for the Impreza, right?

no the gr2s are for an impreza. well thats what i ordered, and thats what they box and part numbers say.

the struts and ground control springs are BOTH for 93-01 impreza!!

Ok, I was thinking if the GR2s are for the G-C sleeves then they should work flawlessly. Have you contacted G-C?

I have an idea that might work - take a bump stop and slice a 1/4" off the widest part, slide it down and have it sit down under the G-C sleeve.

You should still contact G-C though.

Yeah i thought that they should work as well. I contacted the guy that i bought them from, he is a GC dealer in MT. Olive, IL. He told me that the sleeves and the struts should work. i sent him the same pics i posted on here. He contacted GC and one of his mechanics, the sleeves should fit. He also told me its not uncommin to have to mod the strut slightly.

I am pretty sure I can make the struts/GC springs work, i am just wondering if i can mod the springs like how Jamal has in his pics. If you look closely at the bottom spring perch it dosent look like a perfect circle, it kinda looks like the spring perch has been ground down so the sleeves sit all the way down and he has full adjustability. I just want to know if i would be able to do the same?

Thanks

no updates at the moment sorry. i am a college student so i dont have much time to do this. lol

i hope i will get some time within the next month or two. if not unfortunatly probably next spring :-(

yeah if you have read the entire post you know that the sleeves are hitting on the middle of the strut. i have to find time to grind down that mid point a little bit and finaly install them.

there are other guys that have done this as well. Gibbons98legacy did this to his, granted he used the KYB AGX instead of the GR-2 struts.
