Gold Rims

Ok. Gold rims for subarus are alittle rarer to come by then what i thought.
I noticed alot of people painting then. What brand of paint are you using (try to be specific)?

I used Valspar, Metallic paint.

I think duplicolor makes a gold wheel paint...also grimmspeed sells a gold paint that is similar to the bbs on sti's...

+1 on duplicolor iv used them on 4 different rims iv had in the past. my current bbs's are powder coated.

Dang...i want those wheels...in gold...ill have to get those and get some of that paint

EDIT....checked duplicolor website (http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html), and the wheel paint isnt in gold. well atleast not anymore...

VHT also makes a gold wheel paint I think...

Krylon, VHT, Duplicolor - just grab a durable paint off your Walmart store shelf and go to town. :smt023

I was more so aiming to get the right subaru gold...lol

There isn't any such thing really... I called Subaru America direct about 2 years ago to get the paint code for the gold used on the RS "goldies" and they told me they didn't have anything recorded. A few people claim to know the paint code, but it changes slightly from year to year.

BBS gold paint by Grimmspeed is probably your best best.

I did some more research on the duplicolor paint. Most people go with the gold chrome paint and then wheel clear cloat. If its cheap enough ill go with it. Alot of people on other forums like it.

ya that should be fine the grimmespeed is suppose to be more like the subaru gold. but no matter what just do you prep work and do many thin coats.

yep...i know bout the thin coats....thats how i have to do my R/C car bodies. I think my RC18T Bug body took over 10 layers.
Prep work, Is that just covering up the tire, sanding down the rim and primering?

it also helps to use a degrease cleaner before you start
