franken. compatable cams?

im looking to do a 2.5 dohc engine block with 2.2 sohc heads. i have a guy whos built some pretty reliable stuff (40psi boosted 4cyl's) and he was thinking along with a port and polish if it would be possible to swap the sohc 2.5 na cams to the 2.2 na cylinderheads hopefully making it breathe better. ive seen something similar on a nissan. just wondering if anyone has specs to compare if it will physically fit.

sohc head= nice tq, but so so hp
dohc head= nice hp and tq

anything can be done with the right tools and money.

Swap the whole head if you want better flow. Even if you upgrade the cams you're dealing with the inferior/smaller exhaust ports on the 2.2.

no 2.2 sohc and 2.5 cam have different OD journals
2.2 rh front 31.935mm center 37.435mm rear 37.935, lh rear 31.935 center 37.435 front 37.935
2.5 31.928mm every journal

is it because the EJ22 heads are single port? either phase I or phase II ej22's?

I'm thinking of doing something along the same lines and from my experience with Hondas you want to switch a smaller head on a bigger motor for more compression. Correct me PLEASE if im wrong.

by single and dual port heads are we talking the exhaust ports?
i have dual port 2.2 heads then....
the reason i ask is because im looking for a more aggressive cam for my swap to breathe better.
i know some nissan guys who have done this thats where i got to thinking.

Yes exhaust port. Delta cams or the guys here that do cam grinds can probably grind you some sick cams.

:D I'm looking to do the same thing and I can't wait to start. I want to get a used EJ25D and swap the heads for SOHC Dual port EJ22 heads and some cams grinded for torque. AH! I can't wait for it. Too bad I'm limited by freakin money.
