View Full Version : hatch issue
My rear hatch doesn't seem to want to open. It has done it before where all i have to do is push the lock button a few times and the unlock button a few times and it would work but now nothing is working. Any ideas?

Cut a hole in the interior panel like the previous owner of mine did.
Easy to access the rods to get it open that way until you figure out what's wrong.

I had a problem like that, no idea what caused it or how I fixed it. I ended up pulling off the inner trim of the hatch from inside of the car and playing around with it until i got it to unlock and open. Hasn't been a problem since.

Sounds as if the ground for the locking unit is bad??? or the latch itself, is on it's way out.

This is probably because the ignition key was changed at some point and the door locks were never rekeyed to match.
it has never worked on the rear hatch the key opens the other doors. I will try Wd-40 today and if that doesn't work then I will try taking the panel off to mess with a few things.

Taking the rear panel off will be your best bet to see what is going on. Two people really come in handy here. On my 95, the key wouldn't open the hatch, and it was because somehow the rod got jammed up in the mechanism. Also, a mix between that, and the handle spring had rotted off. After I lubed the key pushrod, and replaced the exterior handle, problems went away.
Fixed: took off the rear panel, there was a small little metal bar that comes from the left that was sort of in limbo so pushed it down and I have yet to have it not work.
