Thats pretty awesome. I believe there is a brief mention of this in the wikipedia article on the Legacy.

Owning 3 different generations of subaru legacy, it's amazing how far they've come. I love my 07, but damn was the 1st gen. ahead of its time. It's funny, my grandmother had a 93SS, and everytime she visits she begs to drive my 91.
Too bad it looks as if it the new generation is just becoming another run of the mill sedan.

I think the Legacy was a head of its time aswell considering that the Legacy RS
had
#1 coil on plug
#2 Air water intercooler
#3 chromemoly coated crank, rods,Closed deck block
No other competitors had either in any models
Mitsubishi had the 4g63 series motor but had a coil pack
air to air intercooler. Thank you fuji!
