We moved into our new house this October from a townhouse so we finally have space for things like a Christmas tree. We went to a tree farm yesterday with my fiance's sister & husband, they go every year. As much as I'm not into cutting down a perfectly good tree it was still a fun event to ride on a sleigh out to the tree field and walk amoung the rows of trees until you find the "perfect tree"

Its quite a challenge finding the right tree. You have to make sure there's no major bare spots or dead branches and we didn't want one too big and This is what I picked out, a Scotch Pine.

Mounting the tree on the roof rack after a successfull hunt. It was a pretty cool operation. They had this device that shakes the snot out of the tree to get rid of all the dead and loose pine needles. Then they pass the tree through the red hexagon shaped thing on the far right. It places a plastic net over the tree which keeps it compressed and easier to transport.

This is the first time I used the roof rack on my car. I wondered if I was ever going to use it or if I should have taken it off.

My fiance having a go at decorating the tree. The biggest PITA was finding white lights, we had to visit three different stores.

The finished product. All its missing is a ton of presents. They'll start to accumulate in the coming weeks.

nice, we just put ours up Friday... although we got sick of the needles going everywhere, so we have an artificial tree.

we still have to get ours up. I can't believe my mom was considering an artificial tree

But we gave the artificial tree away to the auction fundraser, so its all good :D

ALRIGHT... If I had say as to which type to have, I also would choose a real tree, but unfortunatly, I was out voted... 2-1

Hence why we have a fake one.

I stopped helping with the decoration with the tree the year my mom bought a fake tree. :(

Interesting though, when I went up in the hills for my snow fun a few weeks ago, I saw a bunch of people in Subie wagons out cutting trees for Xmas. :)

This place was in the country, we live on the edge of the city and it was about 40 mins away down a (snowy) gravel road. Besides all the SUV's and minivans I'd say the next most popular vehicle we saw were Subaru wagons.

I have to admit, nothing looks as good as a real tree. Ours is a real thirsty bugger. When we mounted it I put at least 4 teapots worth of water (2 liters) into the base. Yesterday evening it was nearly empty. The house isn't that dry, I guess the tree sucked it all up.

the trees usually are thirsty when you first get them...it'll level off.

Looks great, and just an added bonus that you had such fun with getting it.

Living in an apt, we're stuck with a fake tree. It doesn't bother me much since we didn't have trees anyway growing up. The fiancée REALLY wants a real tree, but that'll just have to wait. I'm not too keen on the idea of cutting down a sapling for the sake of a decoration for like 3 weeks or whatever. Just seems extremely wasteful and irresponsible. But I guess I'll have to give it a go at least once before I pass judgment.

Personally, I think this whole Christmas thing is getting a little out of hand. Granted it's probably just me being brought up in Singapore, and it's really just another excuse to party and hang out with friends.

While I college, I got numerous invitations every year to go home with the American students. The ones I really enjoyed were CO in 96 and CT in 98, but other than that, I'd just stay on campus and work. I have to say that those times when I was here alone were the only times I got really homesick.

Oh well. Not likely that that’ll happen again.

We just put ours up this weekend also, we usually try to buy a live tree then plant it in the spring but this year we cut one down at a tree farm just down the road.
