Hey,
I just bought a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT and it came with the stock CD player and Tape deck.
I'm just wondering where i can get a dash kit that will fill the entire hole that will be left, but still
let me install a aftermarket CD Deck. Can I get any one off ebay??
And what would the speaker size be in both my doors and above my rear seats?

There are plenty of options. All major brands come with harnesses that adapt to the factory wiring.
If you want to fill the space entirely (not my recommendation, but whatever) you're looking for a 2DIN space unit.
A 6 disc changer from any Subaru from 2000-07 will drop right into the space.
Speakers in front doors are 6.25" IIRC but they have short magnets. Speakers in rear deck are 5.25".
Yeah it's just 2 DIN units stacked. Plastic cubbies that slide into the extra DIN your aftermarket unit doesn't occupy are readily available - no need for a fancy dash kit.

Thanks for the quick reply. I ordered a dashkit for my legacy and bought a wiring harness off ebay for like $7.00 after shipping.
My front passenger speaker is blown, and the drivers side one sounds like its going to kick the can soon.
Though about putting a sub and amp in it, but dont want to have to deal with running the wiring under the carpet and all that.

Just read in another forum that the door speakers are 6.5". Can anyone give me a positive answer as to what the size of the speakers are in my 1997 subaru Legacy GT?

i have a 97 L it has 6.5's all around, the ac controls aren't interchangeable with the radio din locations Subaru mounted them differently sry

I have seen it done - lots of work:
1. They aren't exactly the same size so you'll have to do some cutting
2. The AC control has a mechanical cable for the cold/hot temperature slider that needs to be extended/relocated
3. The AC control wires need to be spliced and lengthened.
4. The AC control location is not very deep, have to do some modifying to get a normal head unit in there without it sticking out of the dashboard a ton

Sounds like more work then its worth.
Plus its nicer to just let your wrist sit on this shifter and just easily press the buttons on the radio.
One more question, what is the maximum depth of the speakers for the door that I can get?

Depends entirely on the size and shape of the magnet...
I had Alpine Type R components in the front doors at one point, but I needed a 1" spacer to clear the window glass.

So if i bought speakers for my doors that were 2" in depth, would I have to get a spacer at all?
