It's been covered from every angle, much to the chagrin of our beloved Moderators, and yet.... It's another snorkus question! Basically, I just want to know if the "snorkus delete" is the best way to modify my intake on the 1991, 2.2, 4EAT wagon. I read the link to the 3-way(hee-hee!) comparison and I'm stuck between the straight up "delete" or the "hybrid". Any answers would be much appreciated.

Im a fan of the hybrid and have made my own version on my BH.

Fully deleting it leaves a hole that i personally dont like. If the aesthetics dont bother you then go for it.

I've removed mine on my 2nd gen and I think if I didn't remove it my wheels would have rubbed on it since I had to roll my fenders. Yea there is a hole there but subaru sells a cover for it but don't ask me the part number cuz i don't know it :grin:

Mine was chocked full of feathers and gore, couldnt be bothered cleaning it hence the mutilation.
I dont think it makes a big difference on a non-turbo motor...well i didnt feel any change but on a turbo ive seen the mod give faster spool up.

This thread will help you a lot. It explains how the MAF gets weird signals between 1500-2000 rpm ish, causing the car to stumble at full throttle at those RPMs. Not a big deal as long as you don't floor it down low.

I did - I liked the extra noise at WOT and it definitely didn't bog as much in low rpms.

Noisy is ALWAYS a plus! Did you just modify the ebay CAI, or did you fab something on your own?

I had the hybrid for a while, see a few posts above, but I like the short ram intake better because is was louder. It doesn't have the best low-end characteristics because of the absence of the torque box, but it howls up high.

I know this is an old thread but for the sake of it, I used duct tape. Like the actual "metal" tape to cover the hole. It works good and seals off the engine better that the cover IMO, so you get more air from the fender.
