Trying to help out a local with the 4.11 4EAT out of my 2.2L L wagon that I have sitting around, but we're not sure if it'll work in the Outback. I did offer to sell him my 4.11 rear end as well, but why make more work??

Are the gear ratios the same as other 4EATs, or is it like the 5MT with the longer 5th gear kinda thing?

ALSO, will the 4.44's TCM cope with the 4.11? I don't see why not, just want to make sure if he wants to swap trans and rear diff that everything else will plug and play.

Otherwise I still have the TCM out of my wagon.

4EAT gear ratio depends on the motor. EJ22 has one set of ratios for 1st/2nd gear, EJ25 another. 3th/4th gear are the same. They do not change it between the Legacy vs. the Outback.

What DOES change is the stall torque ratio and stall speed.

So you may need the TCM that matches the tranny - not sure what effect it would have to run the same TCM on a different tranny.

i tried everything to identify mine, and i had lots of "i think its....."

i finally found out i could cal a dealer....NOT JUST ANY DEALER!....cause i called the local ones and they said they couldnt access that info...

then i called davidson subaru in loveland CO and a lovely woman named Candice helped me ID several trans by the last 8 of the vin they came out of.

now i dont know why none of the other dealers could help me, maybe it was because i want buying anything from them? or maybe the people working there were just lazy idiots. cause the info is readily available in the catalog screen in the parts dept.

the only for sure way i know to ID a trans final drive ratio is the VIN
