Sorry did not know if this is right place to post this. So this is my first Subaru a 1999 legacy postal wagon.

I was driving to work today and speedometer stopped working. And I was wondering where the speed sensor is located. Transmissipn?Differential?

If that is the problem.

Thanks.

Speed sensor is located on passenger side of the tranny, closer to the block.

There is a front and a rear sensor on the automatic transmission Rear is on the left side (hah I almost said driver's!) on that last/extension section of the tranny.

i know where the speed sensor is located, just dont know how to get it out and replace it.
does any one know how to do this? is it worth me doing? or do i take it to the dealership :smt010

Unclip it from the main harness, and then simply unscrew it from the transmission.

Yeah if I remember right there is a wire issues on the back of the gauge cluster that could be faulty as well... Called the jumper fix

^^This is a known issue, I had the same issue and after installing a wire to the ground points I havent had the issue.

OP here are a few links to fix the issue:
