So I own a 99 legacy bg wagon.

I just got it and it came with a crappy alpine.
I found out whoever installed it is a dumbass.

Problem occurs when I turn off my headlights. Headunit turns off. I turn on headlights and the head unit turns back on.

I decided to remove the headunit and yo my surprise they hardwired it.

Meaning they couldn't spend the time to get a plugand play harness from walmart.

What really makes me mad is the fact that when they cut the oem plug. They left no wires at all , so I can't re wire it.

So I am wondering what is going on.

It appears it is getting power from the headlights; but how?

And I am most likely gonna go to a junkyard. And cut a oem radio harness out to re splice it, and install the new radio the right way.

It's probably tapped into the wrong power line. Hard to believe some people get it wrong. I've hardwired plenty of radios before when people don't get the extension harnesses, it's not hard to match things up and label the wires.

When you repair the harness, make sure the battery is out so you don't short anything.

It sounds like they tapped into the headlight trigger from the switch (stock) on the steering column. Why would anyone do this I have no idea.

Easiest way to fix this is the find the iginition cable and tap power from there so the headunit only powers on when the key is in the "Acc/On" position.

Keep in mind that you have two power wires for your head unit. Constant 12v and ignition 12v (the on off switch) .

If you really want to repair whats in there its not that hard.

1) Go to a junk yard and cut a harness from a random legacy.
2) Go back home and take apart the entire plastic trim around the head unit. Remove all the brakets that hold the head unit in
3) You should have enough room to crimp/solder/tape all your connections to the stock harness
4) Connect the universal adapter you bought for $10 at Wal-Mart
5) Plug and play

Hope this helps.
