Are the valves adjustable on the 2.5l. Is there a recommended service interval the have them adjusted. I have what sound like valve flutter at 1600-2200rpm under slight load. It's annoying as hell and embarrassing. thanks

I don't really have much experience with the SOHC models but I know they do have solid lifters so they should be adjustable. The DOHC variant is adjusted by shim pucks between the lifter buckets and the cams. I'd imagine the SOHC variant is probably adjusted on the rocker arm.

There is no service interval for adjusting the valve clearance. Basically, there is a service interval for inspection (which is basically just listening for valvetrain noise) and adjusting as necessary.

They are adjustable. Are you sure it is valve related and not a wristpin or piston slap? It is rare that the valves will go "out of adjustment" without something else going wrong.

I don't really know what the issue is with the engine, all i know is, i'm starting to really not like this car anymore.
the damn thing vibrates like a bitch at a stop, have to shift to neutral. goes away when i drive. then it it's a flutter noise between 1600-220rpm, thought it was spark knock but i've replaced plugs, wires, coil, knock sensor and 02 sensors and it still does it. I hate driving it and I can't sell it this way. Had it to the dealer a few times and they are also stumped.

I've redone my valves on the driver side head now 3 times trying to get ride of the noise, after my rebuild...I'm done with it for now it's almost gone. but mine makes a small tick all the time not just at a rpm range. I know one heat shied is rattling at around 3500rpms when I shift. oh, there is something around this site for that shaking in D when at a light...but I haven't remember where to look since i have a manual.
