I recently swapped my oem seats for 05 RS bucket seats. The new seats sit higher, which is not an issue on the driver side because of the height adjustment. The passenger seat, however, is uncomfortably high now. Anyone taller than 6 feet has no head room. I am was wondering if there is any way of lowering the seat? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You could try swapping the mounting brackets/sliders from your old Legacy seats to the new ones.

I was just going to suggest that. I personally am not 100% sure if it will swap over. But seeing how these cars are like legos, I have a feeling that the brackets connecting directly to the seat should be the same. Defiantly find out and get back to us. will answer some questions going around about this type of swap

Unfortunately the oem BD slider brackets are different from the 05 rs brackets, so swapping brackets isn't an option. After over 2 months of use I've found that the passenger seat is liveable for those over 6 feet, as long as the seat is reclined more than usual. Thanks to those who posted. If anyone has any other ideas let me know. Thanks.

Drill out the welds on the mounting feet. Swap the feet from the BD seats onto the bottom of the RS seats and reweld them there. The RS seats have taller mounting feet.

I would temper with the seat brackets. Just in case you're in an accident, something might break off from the seats.

I don't know if Im comfortable tampering with the seat brackets.

See if you can find a set of JDM seats and swap the seat brackets on the passenger side (drivers side on the JDM seats). This is what I did with my STi seats and now I have height adjustment on both drivers and passenger seats!

Thats a good idea. Thanks. Now I just have to find someone who is willing to part with their seat bracket. Just one question: how do I know which jdm bracket will fit the 05 rs bracket?

I am resurrecting this thread in light of me spending a lot more time in the passenger seat as I am teaching my gf how to drive. Anyone who has done the wrx seat swap knows that the passenger seat sits too high. I would like to find a solution to lower the passenger seat without tampering or fabricating new seat bases. Cajual, I think, made a good suggestion using jdm adjustable driver side (USDM passenger) seat bases. What I would like to know is what jdm year/model bases are compatible with 05 RS/WRX USDM seats? ALso, are there any aftermarket bases which may work? This would be useful info to the loads of people who have done the wrx seat swap.

I suspect he probably meant Japanese/European WRX seat brackets. But I could be wrong.

I was about to pick up a set of STi sears for my BD but seeing as I am 6'3" and always have my seat as low as it goes would this be inadvisable?

I wouldn't advise it if you are thinking of the GD series sti seats. Your head will be in the sunroof. I have heard that the jdm GC series sti seats sit lower, similar to ours.

Back from the dead...
I am about to go grab some 06 wrx seats for my 95 legacy however I am reconsidering it now.. I am fairly confident in my welding skills. But before I get that into it, I better ask anyone know of bucket seats that work in out cars no prob?

Yeah they work... Had the same problem of height but like I recommend is cutting and rewelding as mentioned in the thread to lower the pass seat. Other then that, your good to go!

i think recaro and maybe bride make low rails for those seats. i'd stick to gc8 seats as they hold better than the later models anyway

I have the seat brackets from a 2000 Subaru Impreza RS passenger side. I sold the driver side to a guy who installed it on 2004 sti seats to make the sit lower. He said everything worked fine. Hit me up if you need the passenger side seat rail.

I have 98 RS seats in my car. They sit noticably higher than the stock LGT seats (which I always had adjusted all the way down) but not uncomfortably high. Actually the 98 RS seats are incredibly comfortable, especially compared to my stock leather LGT seats. I can sit in the RS seats all day without any major problems, where-as the LGT seats would only work for a couple hours.
I actually find the STI seats to be very uncomfortable. The bolstering is excellent, but the lower back support is awful. I drove my friends 04 STI back from Sacramento (roughly 8hrs) and I was dying by the time we got home.

I have 02 WRX seats in mine and the difference isn't that bad. The height diff is noticeable on both side, but not unlivable, and I am 6'3". The pass side I never worry about, as everyone that sits there is short. My buddy sat in the car once and never had an issue, and he is my height.

I have 96 WRX seats in my car, the height is the same as the normal 90-99 Legacy ones. Super comfy but I'm embarrassed to say I'm about 10lbs away from being too fat to fit (I'm 5'11, 210lbs). They are super supportive and snug, just no height adjustment. They replaced 02 USDM wrx seats, which are as you described - too tall on the passenger side, and the driver could never fit with a helmet even with the lowest adjustment.
