97 Legacy GT, Springs or Coilovers?

I am looking to replace my stock suspension for something stiffer/lower. I don't have a lot of money to spend, so I am thinking lowering springs. (Struts were replaced <20k ago, so I think they should hold up.) I am looking to stiffen up the chassis, yet maintain some comfort on rough roads. So far spring sets that I have come across for the BD chassis include: H&R, B&G, and Eibach. Are there any others I should consider? Are these any good? Any info would be useful. Also, I want to avoid the back-end sag look that some lowering suspension causes. Is there a way of avoiding this?.. ie shims.

Up until now I had assumed that coilovers were too stiff an option to keep the ride comfortable yet responsive. Is this true? I live in Canada where it snows 4 months of the year and I have heard that with coilovers corrosion can be an issue. I have found D2 and Tein flex coilovers which fit my car as well. Again, are there any others I should consider? Any info/advice you could provide would be much appreciated.

If you don't have $$$, don't get coils. They will cost you more money initially than a set of springs + alignment, and are less durable over a LONG period of time.

My suggestion is to contact iON Performance - they're based in Canada and are able to sell BD-specific springs.

i am also thinking in the next year or so i'm gonna replace the suspension stuff, like struts, springs, tophats, sway bars, endlinks..
I'll definitely NOT get coilovers because of the whole money issue. What's a good combo of struts, springs, tophats to get?
to change the subject a little, whats the difference between struts and shocks? i don't understand it at all..

I contacted Ion Performance about BD specific springs. Unfortunately, they are a little pricey. $499 CAD + shipping. H&R, B&G, and Eibach springs are all under $300 CAD. Regardless of price, I am still not sure what brand would be best to go with. Thanks for the advice so far. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Lone_legacy - Going with the iON's is well worth the money. Especially since they're designed specifically for your car. The H&R's, B&G and Eibachs are all "generic" type of springs. I've tried both the H&R as well as the Eibachs before switching to the iON's myself.

Nit to mention, Eibach are out of production now. If you want you can try King springs in Australia or New Zealand, that's where i got my springs from.
