hey guys my legacy is pretty much stock except for an 04 cat back. i have no check engine light and the car drives fine. but when i turn it on it idles between 1500-2000 then when i touch the gas lightly it drops to 1000 and then calms down to about 750-800 normal and i can drive. but starting last night the car will not idle any lower than 1000-1100 constantly. even if i come to complete stop the idle never drops. is this an early sign of a MAF sensor going bad? or a Throttle position sensor possibly. the motor has about 20k and the car it's self has about 80k any input will be appreciated.

Idle Air Control Valve might need a clean + new gasket.

Yeah had that problem last week. I went through and check to see if there were any leaks, cleaned out my lines, and clean out the Idle Air Control Valve + EGR Valve careful with a metal hanger ( removing all the residue inside). Good luck hope it helps... if not you may have to replace some parts...

i bought the iacv gasket today and everything i read said that it's on the top of the throttle body..... but is it actually on the left of the throttle body if you're looking form in front of the car? and is there a good method to removal or would i need to take the intake off and the throttle body as well ?

since what your saying sound like the location of my iac(on a 97), im assuming you have a second gen legacy?
but anyway, mine is on the right side of the motor, or the left as your standing at the front of the car looking into the engine bay.
remove whatever you have to to get at it, its kind of a pain in the butt.
i did not remove the throttle body.
but depending on what tools you have you may need to.
or if your super lazy, you can go get some seafoam, put it into a spray bottle, and shoot some in the hose connected to it, let sit, repeat, let sit........etc
wont help if you gasket is hosed, but may help if its just dirty.
if your going to remove it, be carefull, i stripped one of the bolts on it, but i replaced them all with TORX bolts.
i heart TORX bolts
