i know i saw it somewhere, someone either on this forum, or linked to another had a DIY motor/trans mount thread.

ive searched, and control F ed etc.

anyone got a link?

What do you mean, MAKING your own engine mounts? Or installing them?

I don't know if you can stiffen up the motor mounts by yourself...however the stock trans mount can be stiffened up, I did the old fill-with-3M windshield adhesive trick on a spare transmission mount I had. Same thing with my Grp N pitchstop...

but hey how did that trans mount stiffening work out for you?

i saw a link where you could order inserts i believe, but i forgot to order a trans mount :oops:

and id be game to give stiffening it a shot before i order another one.

how did you stiffen your pitch stop?

i got the shakes at idle.

removed the trans mount...

its not spose to come out in two pieces right?!?!?!? :smt011

and the nut holding that big rubber washer thing on there was only hand tight, and the rubber washer was not even touching the Xmember. :smt011

wtf. :smt026

EDIT: that big rubber washer is supposed to ride against the crossmember right?

One time when I changed the tranny mount I discovered one of the studs was completely gone - it had broken off :lol:

Not sure what you mean by the rubber part - the rubber is between the two metal plates, and the tranny sits on top of the mount and when you lower it into the mount it sandwiches the mount between the tranny and the crossmember.

yes, but on the underside of the X member, there is a big rubber/metal washer thing, almost looks castellated

this goes on the center most stud of the (in my case) 4 studs on the trans mount.

i dont know why they would have 3 studs with no cushion on the bottom of the trans member and one with cushion

but when i put the nuts on the studs, this rubber washer is held in with the nut but does not contact the X member, i dont know if it should or not.

reason for my skeptisism is im a subie newbie, and the SVX we did this nut made contact with the Xmember...

Ok resurrecting this from the dead, but my 03 Leg wagon is a stock n/a 2.5. Will wrx motor mounts work on it? Ive got an extra set, and bought urethane for them, just cant find any info if wrx mounts work on an N/A?

yeah they'll fit good enough.What exactly does that mean? Are they the same? Will they work as a direct bolt-in?

Normal WRX engine mounts aren't much of an upgrade. You want Group N mounts. They have a stiffer urethane core instead of rubber.

I did the group N engine and transmission mounts on my 2.2l legacy. install was a breeze, dont know why people say its so damn hard. for the rear bolts on the engine mount all you need is a ratchet wrench and you're good to go.

yeah, gear wrenches really help on alot of stuff...

and i bought a trans mount from rockauto, it was obviously something someone somewhere got a core on and remanned, or whatever, cause it diddnt want to fit quite right, but with some "leeverage" and an impact gun, it went smoothly..

It's kind of a 2-person job - when I jacked my motor off the mounts it required some pushing and shoving to get the studs and holes to line back up.

I did it myself, I just loostened the jack a bit and let the engine fall slowly and I pushed on it to get the studs to fall back into the holes :)
