95 2.2na into a 98gt 5mt swap journal

In the next couple of weeks I will begin a long awaited swap. I will be taking a 95 2.2 and putting it into the 98gt that well....will not leave me...I have had issues and problems with the EJ25d in the 98 and nothing I have done will stop the Blinking CEL of death. I will post multiple pictures, videos and problems and solutions as we do the swap. Hopefully my little journal will help alleviate any problems and questions others have about this swap.

Along with this swap are you going to be swapping out wiring harnesses?

from what my friend told me (subaru tech), he said I didn't have to. we will bolt it right up and run it off of the 2.5gt computer along with all of the sensors. Any issues and problems I will post. trying to set up a time to do the swap. Anyone in the SE mass area wana lend a hand? hehe

When I swapped a 2.2 out of a 95 wagon I had to swap harnesses to use in my 97GT. They were both manuals. Just a heads up in case it doesn't start.

Began the swap at 10:30 am on August 30, 2009. Will post pictures and info when done.

I'm getting it. all the pictures came out great along with the video of the start up. My friend is in the Army and is taking his time with the write up. Ill push him to finish it tonight.

im considering putting a 2.2 into the 97gt, leaving the same trans just swaping motors so i can rebuild the 2.5 and the wife still has something to drive....

ive heard that you DONT need to swap ECUs or harness's and i have heard that you do from othr people as well...

what did YOU DO?

if its a direct swap.. i just gotta figure out the exhaust manifold.. i found a 2.2 from a 96 impreza witrh low mileage i heard run and all but i dot know for sure that the exhaust will bolt up to the flange on the gt.

Im still waiting for him! darn national guard.... We had no CEL's and everything bolted right up. We swapped over all of the accessories (A/C, Power steering, alt). the only thing we needed to do there was swap the Bracket holding the A/C and Alt from the 2.5 to the new 2.2. the only issue. other than that everything bolted up fine and she passed inspection. While the engine was out we did the usual. fluids, wires, plugs, timing belt etc. made it sooooooo easy.

It literally was a plug and play the entire way (except for the AC/alt bracket...it is a bit different...you will see). The exhaust matched up perfectly.

I just want him to finish so you guys can see the pics and critical info!. blah! Im going to give him a call today and see what is up.
