Nice wagon... the paint does look very nice.

I noticed you have fog lamps painted yellow. Do you run with them on? If so, does that improve your night vision? (You can tell I want to paint mine, can't you...)

Enjoy the car!

Alright so my mod list has gotten up there.

as i see it now.
all i got left is:

pulley set
cams
TB spacers

What else should I do to it? is it worth it to get a tune? I am getting a dyno pull next sunday. if anyone wants to go. its 50$ a pull at EFI logics in west hartford CT. huge CTSUBIE event. let me know!

I'm kind of in the same boat and I'm thinking pulleys would be next for me. So that's my suggestion for you.

decke48
11-12-2008, 11:19 PM
id personally do cams but you will have a lot of downtime unless you have a spare set of cams. and a tune would get the full potental of the cams. but theres no open source tune rom for pre-99. so then pulley just make sure you get the right set. coarse or fine ps pump. i dont see the TB spaces in any real gains. 2-4hp is dyno error(depending on the pull)

An upgraded ignition coil would also be a worthwile mod. There are various writeups on putting a dodge neon or MSD coil on a leggy.

He already has that.

Cams AND tune, pulleys then TBS

It would be faster, easier and more cost effective to do the pulleys. But if you have the money, and free time to have your car of the streets for a couple of weeks go for it.

Do you have the roof rails in the middle removed? The little black ones that run down the car.
If you do how hard was it to make it look clean?
just removing them and bondoing the holes then painting over?

HeresMyMind
03-27-2009, 01:39 PM
I actually removed them , then filled in the whole with a gaskey maker. i plan on reinstalling them but i want to repaint them black. they chipped and are chrome now. i'll probably do that today

How is the Sti suspension working out? I'm looking at putting in a set of stock struts/springs from an 04 Sti. Yours doesn't look crazy low, which is good. I'm just a little confused because the one in this thread viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12266&p=155000&hilit=sti+struts#p155000 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12266&p=155000&hilit=sti+struts#p155000) at the bottom looks much lower, but it does suggest he's not absolutely sure about it's setup.

Finally, did you have any alignment issues and how did you specifically overcome them. Again there is mention of slotting the lower holes on the fronts, but I don't know too many alignment shops that would touch a "custom" strut.

Sorry for the landslide of questions, I just don't want to be caught by surprise doing the install.

HeresMyMind
04-17-2009, 06:42 PM
haha np. the shop aligned them fine. there is only about a 1" drop maybe less. a much better ride. the wagon rear end sags an extra 3/4" but they do make spacers that you can buy to fix this. wagons in general have a lower rear end to behind with

CAMS, CAMS, CAMS!!! Seriously, do it. I called Delta yesterday to get some info, and it made me want to have them even more. Those guys are so freaking helpful it's not even funny. He asked what forum I was on as well, so if they get more intrest from us than maybe....

Sure, your car will be out of it for a week or two, but the guys at Delta said that cams, whether they be stage 1 or 2 will give the EJ25 a new attitude. You will probably need engine management though, stage 1 doesn't require it but it's nice. And they're not that expensive if you really think about it. Just call them, tell them that you're on SL-I, and get any info you need.

delta are good people. Some guys on NASIOC were having issues with their regrinds on the 05+ RS's (mainly because those cars didn't have an idle air valve, causing a high idle), and they publicly offered to refund the cams + $50 for the seals and junk the customer had to replace when doing the install.

Ok. There in. Piece of cake!

I'm now sitting at 26" from ground to bottom of the fender at the front and about 1/4 inch lower in the back. Mind you, I'm also running about 1.5 degrees of positive camber back there right now. Alignment time very soon.

Thanks again for your input. I'll throw up some pics in the wagon thread once I have a camera that actually works!

Transmission Oil Cooler.
Ebay strut tower bar (for an sti)
New Headers
SAFC-ii
AEM Uego Wideband
Custom Grill
Custom mounted sub amp
New Battery terminals for 4 gauge grounds

I also Tuned the car with the SAFCii at WOT. and there is a deff difference. My car pulls 2 car lengths on a 2.5i saabaru 4eat wagon w/ exhaust. and pulled 2 cars on a 2.5rs 5 speed with catback. (both 0-70). so there is definitively an improvement

Mega tron

and how hard was it to install the tranny cooler?

HeresMyMind
08-25-2009, 03:12 PM
really really easy. you take the return line off the radiator for the tranny fluid. you put a connector between that and the new tubing, run that up to the tranny cooler, then take the return of the tranny cooler and slide it over the metal tube where the old return line was. u need 1 extra 1" clamp though.

It comes with little foam pads to go between the radiator and the cooler too. I used zip toes between the fins of the AC condenser. they hold snug

the kit was 50$ shipped. and its worth the extra peace of mind knowing that I am not burning my tranny fluid up when i drive like a Asshole. takes maybe 20 minutes?

its not broken off, it is the old hole made for the sti ones. i had to drill new holes

yes that link is the same one, you have to either cut hood support or you have to place 2-3 washers on the hinge to the hood to raise it up a bit.

the tranny cooler is a hayden 676, yes very happy with it.

I cut the hell out of the hood support. washers are much easier BUT, they make the hoodline on the outside of the car slightly higher. Cutting the hood support made it almost impossible to use the hoodscoop plate. I have to go back and trim it nicely with a cutting wheel

The hood trim is a pretty good idea, really. I've been looking everywhere for a decent strut bar that wouldn't interfere with my intercooler (It sits way up high.) Apparently, Whiteline makes one of the reverse strut bars which I may end up going with. I can also add support for my hood to it as well to keep it from over-flexing when it gets super hot.

Raising the hood is really simple. no adjustment needed just 4 washers on each bolt and if you want more height more washers and a longer screw

How long did the swap take you? Im looking at swapping this summer and im trying to get a time estimate. I plan on having the wiring done to speed up things.

HeresMyMind
02-13-2011, 08:00 AM
It took two weeks on and off. Wiring I had done by zephyr in jersey. 1 full day for changing the wiring over. 1-2 full days to swap engine in. 1 full day for checking hoses and filling liquids. 1 day for problem solving. You will need to take a bunch of trips to idiot zone or napa for parts. I redid timid belt. Waterpump. Idler pulleys belts. Oil. Filter. Coolant. Powersteering fluid.
