i test drove a 99 SUS today for my wife. got back into my BE and was like damn, why do cars have to get bigger and heavier every year? my 97 was so much more peppy and i could 'feel' the engine way better.
too bad the SUS had a cam seal leak and some post wreck ghetto fabrication

I love my 2nd gen. BD! I've only driven one BE and it was okay. Although, I completely know what you mean about the feel of the engine. It definitely seemed a bit more impersonal.

wow.. funny because this lady here not too long ago got a BH Wagon and every time I walk up to it I'm like if I never found a BK I would of went after one.

I still love the way my BE6 feels, drives, sounds, looks, etc, but the BK4 really does work well for me. I miss little things from the newer car, like dash lighting that works (from the factory), digital trip meter/odo, the horizontal layout of the window switches, the entire HVAC setup, but there are so many things I can't compare between an L and a GT Limited, so I won't.

unfortunately, i could only find an AT, and i find myself manually shifting,and using up more gas in order to get the same results i got naturally from the BD. of course, i AM running bone stock.

yeah the BE's got some plastic composite/rubber/liquid-filled engine mounts, hence the isolation. The pitch mount and transmission mount are pretty much unchanged from other subarus that I have seen.

If you think the 3rd gens are posh, the 4th gens are downright opulent.

Objectively though, both generations are just about on par when it comes to acceleration (9-mid10sec in 0-60, 17-19sec 1/4 cars, hardly anything worth arguing over), assuming both are equipped with the 2.5l engine. The 2nd gens probably only sound like theyre going faster because there's less sound deadening. :twisted:

the brain isn't as stimulated by the ears, and thinks its moving slower in the car than it is.
i do often look down @ the speedometer and see that im going faster than i thought i was.

the real puzzler is, would i even notice or have bias if i had never owned or driven the BD beforehand?

well it's a case of your senses giving you the impression of speed, vs. an objective measurement of how fast youre really going. I've done 100+mph for extended periods on the highway in my BE without noticing the speed until I looked down...I had this problem especially right after the engine swap was done.

It's the same reason why 80mph in a small, thinly padded car like an early 90's civic or corolla feels much more...speedy... than doing 80mph in a big suburban...

I had that issue with the 03 Forester XS It's so easy to have your speed go 90+ without you really noticing but in my BK I know plus at 80 mph the engine is turning near 5K

Haha. Yes indeed. Funny thing is, I found this out by complete accident. But, I was able to get my car past the 118mph limit. I would think this will work on all Scoobers earlier than '05.

What year? That's why I mentioned the '05 bit earlier. I know the newer Leggy's cruise control won't allow you to go over 90mph which, in my opinion, is horse poop.

^^^ no, what you have to do is engage it at the perfect speed! 88mph! haha but i know for a fact that if you do engage it b4 90 mph and just simply use the accelerator toggle you can push cruse well past 90,100,and so on.

but uhhhhhhh maybe if you just push the button and gun it? who knows. my car has so many electrical gremlins....case in point. its so bad that if my back left turn signal was blown.....my CC wouldnt work. shit you not. so maybe my CC is just really messed up haha but ive passed the 112 marker b4.

I haven't driven any newer Legacies, but I've driven 4 GDs (one 2.5RS Auto, one Outback 5MT, one WRX 5MT, one STI)

The 2.5RS felt slower than my car, noticably slower. It felt like my car did when the knock sensor failed, no power unless you floor it and force a downshift to a much lower gear. The Outback felt about on par with my car, but it was a 5MT and mine is a 4EAT. The WRX was obviously faster at WOT but not as much as I would have expected. At the part throttle response was awful, a 2.0L boxer just doesn't have the torque needed to move a 3200lb car without boost. And even once you got on it, there was a ton of turbo lag. I would have expected to get about as much lag as my Mazdaspeed3 had (basically none as long as you are over 2500rpm) and yet even at 3000rpm in 2nd or 3rd gear there was easily 1/2 second of lag. For a turbo as small as the WRX has, thats ridiculous. And the STI...well...we won't go there. :) It is about on par with my old Mazdaspeed3 in 3rd gear and higher.

So, the BD/BK in stock for is not a fast car by any means, but I think that its good enough for getting around town. I only really feel my car is underpowered when I go find a back road and try to have some fun. Around town, the throttle response is good enough that it makes it feel "peppy." And the AWD really helps because you can give it more throttle earlier if you are trying to make a turn quickly or something, versus having to be nearly all the way around the corner before giving it much throttle like a FWD.

So I tried the CC thing on my car this morning to work (gotta watch out for cops at 4AM) Anyways it's hard to say if it was still going or not I do know the faster you go the worst the speed is off.. at near 90 it's almost 4-5 MPH faster then what you are really going

Interesting. With my car, once the needle is buried the RPMs still continue to raise using the CC. However, without the CC, my speedo hits around 118 mph and begins to do the 'ole gas-n-gag (governor kicks in.) Never knew minimum was 25 though.

Speaking of SUS', I'd like to find a BE SUS and swap it. Might make a neat daily driver. Plus, they are unique. Or, I might grab one with an H6 in it, swap in the WRX powertrain from my WRX, and build an H6 build for my WRX.

my moms 98 astro van speedo goes up to 100mph, and the cruse will ingage at 100 mph, my dads '03 Chevy silverado i have set the cruse at 110mph, (going with traffic in California,) if i remember correctly the spedo goes up to 120 mph on the silverado do not know how fast the silverado goes though.
