EGR problems?

So i picked up these spacers ready to do this fix. I also had the guys at AdvanceAuto scan my CEL's just to be certain.

backstory - I've had Borla Reps on for maybe a week and a half now. Noticed a little peppier step but also a little drop in gas mileage - from like 23ish to 19/20ish

I figured it was the po420 showing up and messing with me, but alas it was only my po400 EGR code that will never go away.

What might be up with my gas mileage dropping so much? Do the borla reps really make that much a difference in that it needs burns more gas? whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy =[

A faulty EGR system will kill your mileage, fix that first as that is your culprit. the P0420 has no effect on mileage at all; my borlas actually raised my mileage, probably because of the increased power from the 3-5k rpm ranges.

I'll eventually get a valve and tube from a junked EJ25 but that can wait. I've attained anywhere from 24-27mpg with the code on.

After I got my wider summer set on, mpg dropped a bit, but was consistent. But now with the Borla Reps on, they've dropped very drastically. Any ideas man?

Your EGR system might have been malfunctioning just enough to cause a CEL, and it just now failed completely. Or you messed up your front O2 sensor somehow. Otherwise I can't see how the Borlas would decrease your mileage, there has to be something else causing it. Try cleaning your MAF, checking spark plugs, wires, all the typical maintenance stuff. The EGR does contribute to mileage significantly, so fixing that will help anyway.

Don't know if I should start a new thread or hijack one.

Going along mellow at 2300 rpm car has small cutting out feeling, lasts a second, then comes back on, kinda like fuel is temporarily being restricted. I replaced with new fram fuel filter, no diff. There is no cutting out at all on full throttle through entire rpm range in any gear or speed. Its only when I am going about 30- 40 or gently accelerating it does this weird float off flutter thing, ?? (also have new fram air filter and new bosch platinum 2 plugs)

I bet you would get more help if you started a new thread, but make sure and search first. In the mean time, try cleaning your MAF.

hey im having the same problems as this also..here is my link to my video on youtube that the guys at advance auto said was a "idle control system malfunction"..but what im gettin from everybody else is that it might be a faulty egr..if you have the same problems as I do in the video please let me know what it is..

At least in my car, when you open the EGR valve by hand at idle, it just stumbles a little bit, but doesn't die.

If your EGR is faulty, it would either mean that it is allowing exhaust gas to recirculate at idle, which it shouldn't, or it is never opening, in which case your MPG would simply decrease. I don't think the EGR can recirculate enough exhaust to cause the engine to completely die.

Either problem would throw an immediate CEL, so if there isn't a CEL, I'd say its most likely not the EGR. That is just my .02.
