I know this has to be a bushing problem. I already have Kartboy front and back stay bushings for my SS shifter.. but the shifter play / slop is still there and getting worse. I've seen the threads and topics I just can't figure what brand / model bushing is going to fit and which one exactly (though I suspect it's the shift linkage bushing)

Turnin Concept only addresses newer Subarus. I want something I know will fit my 98.

if you have put in all the KB bushings and a ss, than the only thing left is the really small bushings that attach your shifter to your linkage and to the tranny.

You gotta search a little, bud. Your car has the same linkage and shifter as the 93-01 Impreza. Call Clint or Tony @ TiC and they will take care of you.

You want to change the pivot bushing. You have a 98 like me so the narrow one is what you will need.

Bingo! I found it on the Tic site for the 97-01 Impreza. Narrow it is.
I guess the whole thing is really for the interior parts not relating to the engine is finding what can be used from what car.
