hey guys. we just drove from orlando fl to jacksonville Alabama, and this was thew first time iv ever tried to use the AM radio and the reception was terrible.

so im wondering, do Subaru have that little built in AM antenna in the head unit? or is it external?

if it is external i would imagine there is a connector somewhere that the prior owner may have fiddled around with and left unconnected?

if it is external, is it the same/built in to the stock antenna?

i guess if it is external i will look into upgrading it. if its internal, i dunno.

any advice? thoughts? help?

so after going thru the factory service manual, i can find no mention of an external AM antenna

anyone got a head unit (mine is CD and cassette) like the ones used in a 97 GT laying around, and can look at the back and see if it has connections for an external AM antenna. i doubt it, but ya never know.

i would really rather not pull mine out just to find out there arent any, and have to put it back.

and long drives suck without talk radio.

thanks.

on my head unit the only thing that was on the back was a single plug for the normal antenna no special one for am , i've seen the gt stereo and apart from the cd drive and connection there wasn't an extra plug on it
