What is the safest way to temporarily disable my AC compressor? My tensioner is busted. In the meantime the belt is chewing into the timing belt cover. Until I find a new tensionser assembly will just taking off the belt really mess up the AC compressor clutch until I get a new tension adjuster?

Yeah I know.. no AC. I don't care. I know this is a long term issue and I need to just know if I'm going to ruin the clutch or compressor to not have a belt on it. I can guess I could pull the fuses on it too.

well taking off the belt is not going to turn the AC.. the AC does not turn on unless you turn the AC on.. HOWEVER.. your AC turns on when you need to defrost your front windows to help speed up the process (AC acts like a dryer)

Taking off the belt should have no adverse effect on the compressor.

I wonder what else is tied to the compressor. My old Dodge had this weird thing that the rear window defroster turned on the compressor.

just take off the belt. I just had to replace the tensioner and idler pulley on mine, it's not too hard, the part no.'s are easy to find.
