newbie with a question...

I currently daily drive a 1995 legacy l wagon with the ej22e motor with 210,000 miles on it. I found an ej22 motor with 60,000 original miles out of another 1995 locally for around 500 bucks. would it be worth it to buy that motor, pull mine, drop that one in and still daily drive it while I overhaul the one with 210k on it?

When I rev my current motor upwards 4500 it kind of whistles/whines. I don't like it.

My question is: is it worth it? That means is the time/energy worth it? I may overhaul my ej22 and add in a turbo, but I don't know. Would that be worth it? I could always just sell it for parts and buy myself an ej25t sti motor couldn't i?

a lot of people love the idea of swapping NA engines for turbos.
my personal opinion is if you dont have many headaches with your car now, enjoy it for what it is.
if you want a turbo charged vehicle, buy one that was built to be turbo charged.

swapping to the engine with 60,000 sounds like it might be worth it though.

Sounds like it would be worth it to buy that engine with lower miles. . Then squeeze every last mile out the one you got!! Thats what im doin. still mobbin on my legacy motor with 241k on it. . . but i have a ej20t just waitin!!!! lol . Im all about puttin somethin where it may have not naturally went!!!
But hey, if your askin if you could just buy an sti motor. . Then DO that!!! and put it somewhere!!! Like in my car!!! ill even give you my ej20t with 35k and my ej25 with 240+k!!!!! And i wont even charge you anything on top. ill even throw in a broken lawnmower. Nice guy huh. . . :twisted:
Do what ya think is best man. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal at your disposal. When you ask if its worth it, just think. . if the 60000 mile engine lasts anything close to your 210000 mile engine, then you will have it quite some time and have a daily driver at your service while you do whatever it is you decide. Some people get joy from modifying cars. I sold my turbocharged 07 Mazdaspeed3 to buy this Legacy. Why? Because I felt like I couldn't modify the MS3 (without making it unreliable or basically replacing every stock part related to the turbo) and that made it boring for me. I fully intend on swapping the stock drivetrain for a turbo drivetrain.
