In my experience, It is not possible without any changes in the audio system.
to connect your iphone, you need bluetooth or some wire cable, thus, you have to change audio system, complitely.

I recommend you get a good head unit with iPod control features. A decent quality head unit which those features should run you maybe $200, maybe a bit more for one with bluetooth as well.
