My local Subaru dealer allowed me to test fit a set of AVS vent shades for a 2000-2004 Legacy sedan on my 1997 Legacy sedan. The fitment is great. The part # for these is 94832. These retail for nearly $100 less than a set of used jdm rainguards. I thought I would share this info with all of you.

part # I posted is for a sedan set

http://www.autoventshade.com/home_avs.aspx

They are $70 from the dealer. I didn't buy them yet. they are not a subaru part they are made by Auto Vent Shade company.

I'm in for pics. I've been wanting window shades since I got my car.

The worst is when it rained at night, then you get in the car in the morning, put the window down and start driving and have all the water that is on the roof completely drench you. Since it has been raining so much I have been wanting these more and more. I was going to buy a set of jdm ones but the cheapest I could find was $150 shipped. the dealer I went to has the set I tested for $70 and they are avaliable on ebay for $51.99 shipped. as soon as my paypal money clears I will order them.

^ oh man.. i HATE when that happens. I always end up with a bucket being thrown on me. Why do these cars do that!?! lol ever since i got the legacy.. i wondered why they never considered it!

So how well would you say these line up on the car as compared to the JDM ones.. anyone have pics of the JDM ones he could compare to?

+1 for this. Hopefully it doesnt matter with the wagons and sedans...

stirally8
09-18-2009, 08:40 AM
the company that makes these has different part #'s for sedans and wagons. I tried the sedan ones on my sedan. I cannot confirm that the wagon ones will fit a wagon, but I would assume that if the sedan ones fit a sedan then the wagon ones would fit a wagon. keep in mind the part # I posted is for a sedan set.

I have seen some older wagon cruising around with the dealer only rain guards.

and chuck. I'm in the same boat as you! I hate when I am smoking and on the highway the second it starts raining it starts dripping all over the arm rest and the B pillar.....GRRRRRR!!!!

I got them installed yesterday! they look great. where the first curve is at the top of the front windows the ventshades aren't curved 100%. they have less of a radius than the bd5 windows, but if you take your time sticking them it doesn't take much to get them to contour correctly. they are nice when you drive with just the front windows down the wind doesn't beat you in the side of the head. I will try to get some pics up tonight so you can see how they look.

I'm betting if you heat them up with a low heat gun they'll conform easier.

Looks pretty good man. Does anyone have a picture to compare these to the JDM ones? Its all 1 piece per side right? or 2?

Also.. do you still have the box for the part number off it for the sedan?

impreza_GC8

WOW! They look just like the JDM ones! I clicked your original link and saw they make a fitment for the 2000 wagon. Bet it would work on my 1997. So I just take the part number from the Lund Ventshade website to the dealer and they can order it for me?

These are 2 pieces per side held on with 3m double sided tape. They do have a different part number for wagons. any company that sells AVS (autoventshade) products should be able to get them for you. there is a seller on ebay that has them for $53 shipped.

Plenty of places sell AVS gear. Check your local autozone or parts store - they can probably get them in without much of a markup.

Looks good :smt023
Now we know that the 01+ sedan ones fit the sedan and the 01+ wagon ones fit the wagon.
After actually getting some rain since I installed them I found you still get some rain in but nowhere near as much. If you just crack the window a little bit you are good to go.

d1giPhux
11-03-2009, 08:59 AM
^ aw damn.. thats too bad. Is it at least a lot better then NOT having them on there? Hmm.. it should create a 'force field' of wind around the window sort of.. wonder why it may not be doing this..

Nice job!

Good to know there is an alternative if I get tired of waiting for JDM ones for less then $200 :-(

stirally8
11-03-2009, 12:03 PM
It is way better than none at all. They only supply so much cover for the rain. I can easily smoke a cigarette with the window cracked enough to let the smoke out and ash it without getting wet.

I always wondered how this work on a frameless window without breaking with the window fully up.

Sorry for being a nub on this, but I was always curious.

^^ look at the installed pics closer. They attach to the body of the car, not the window.

If they were attached to the window that would kinda defeat the purpose.
And therein lies the rub. Do they come out wide so that they sit above the closed window?

chuckthefuk

Yes... they flare upwards.

And they look bomb, besides the connection where the 2nd overlaps the first..

I have never actually seen a set of BD/BG specific JDM rain gaurds but I DID just score a set of mystery 1 piece rain guards from a 98 outback from Pick N Pull for $20.

Can anybody tell me if these are the real deal? They were each mounted with 1 continuous piece of 3m sticky tape and 4 brackets, 2 of which are secured via a phillips head screw under the weather stripping.

I like them but just realized that I cannot use my Yakima Rack with them on.

Can anybody verify that these are the real deal?

If so, they might just be for sale shortly... all clips in tact ;)

Each side connects with two of these (one in front door and one in rear door) and two no screwed brackets.

10-20-2013, 09:45 PM
Yep, those are OEM Subaru. At least they look just like the ones I pulled off of my GT-B. Mine were a little faded (purple) but also had those little brackets. Thats a nice score for sure.

Sadly, you can not use a Yakima or Thule rack with them on a sedan. One reason I never got them for my BD. I like my rack too much.

harrymaneuvers
10-20-2013, 10:38 PM
I was going to say something about the tint of them... they are a smokey purple when held up to direct sunlight We will see how much I actually have the rack up on the legacy.
