I recently purchased a 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback and it didn't come with an owner's manual. The heated seats and mirrors don't work... the mirror button doesn't light up at all and the seat switches light up when turned on but I don't hear a relay clicking for them. It doesn't seem the fuse is in the fuse box under the hood or with all the other ones in the car and since I don't have the owner's manual (and couldn't download a 96 fsm or owners manual) I figured I'd ask here if anyone knows where said fuse lives. Thanks!

So, according to my manual, in the fuse panel under the dash, the fuse on the top, fourth from the left, is for the seat heaters (15A fuse). As far as the mirrors go, should be on the top, third from left, 20A (it just says "remote controlled rear view mirrors," so I'd say it's fairly reasonable to assume the mirror heaters run off that too. The accessory socket also is on this fuse.)

Well, good news and bad news. Found out the seat heaters were getting power. Bad news is I tried to check resistance on the heater units and found out they are broken... no resistance at all... meaning somewhere the element is broken. That's probably not fun to change.
At least the heated mirrors work now, swapping the switch fixed that issue.

... the mirror button doesn't light up at all
does it light up now?
edit: damn, missed the switched the switch part, lawl...
so, now you should take the broken mirror switch apart!

Heh, St. Paul, MN is where I bought this car. The old mirror switch got thrown away since it also was a PITA to make it adjust the mirrors upwards and to the left so it was just crap.
So I guess the next thing now is I just need to find some different seats for the car which is going to be fun :smt021
