So after a short period of time, I finally got this bad boy. It's horribly slow, but it's got character and I like the looks of it. It's basically stock, with the exception of the 2 fog lights under the front bumper and the wheels. Don't know what they are for sure, as I haven't pulled them off and looked (and they also don't have center caps), but I think they're Panasports. It used to be equipped with auto-leveling rear suspension, but not anymore, so I'm going to tap the FWD fuse and make the height switch be an AWD toggle switch. Not much else to know about it for now. It's an automatic. And it's only got 121k miles on it.

And for those wondering, this is car #7 for me.
1.) Camry Wagon
2.) Ford Explorer
3.) Subaru Outback
4.) Dodge Durango
5.) BMW 525i
6.) Ford Explorer
7.) Subaru GL-10

Not hugely sure, I but I think 4x140 mm, which is a unique size.

And for the record, my favorites were 2 and 6. I still own 6, I suppose I should do something with it

If the Exploders were your favorites, why do you keep buying other vehicles?

Because I'm trying to branch out and see if there's anything else I like. The nice thing about Explorers is that they're roomy, have decent power, good ground clearance, and they're a-dime-a-dozen. However, there's not much inexpensive aftermarket options for them, so I'm still looking at widening out to other midsize 4x4 SUVs. Got my targets possibly set on my buddy's XJ next.

I will agree with the extra room in them, but I drove a few different Explorers, Excursions and Rangers and each time I did it reminded me why Fords sucks. The drive like crap, no turning radius what so ever and not reliable. But if that's what you are into then to each their own.

... no turning radius what so ever...

Uh :smt064

These are probably the only Ford series of trucks/SUV's that actually did have a good turning radius. I can't stand Ford trucks, but the Bronco II we had for the shop (back in the days) was a good little beater. Just sucked that we had to use a screwdriver on the solenoid to get it going every now and then.

First thing I noticed when I got my Outback: The Explorer turned a MUCH tighter turning radius. The older hd trucks had a terrible turning radius and I can't speak for newer fords, but the first gen Explorer, Bronco II, and first gen rangers had pretty good turning circles.

And the thread title is changed, looks like there's a sneaky mod lurking in our midst...

lol, my first Explorer did that. Only the starter solenoid was completely out. That lasted for about 4 days in the winter weather before I fixed it. A 5 minute, $20 job!

So I've decided that the GL-10 will stay. I had the opportunity to trade for the XJ, but I turned it down. I'm still planning on moving ahead with the BL9 strut/spring retrofitting, but i need to wait a little longer for the money. I also have a possible neat little trick up my sleeve that i'll reveal more on depending on how my research goes. I need to figure out the feasability of this before I make plans on doing it...
