So ever since I picked up my car, the parking brake has been basically broken.
No tension, no clicks, no stopping the car from rolling. I never bothered with it then cus I was noob and I had auto so the Park was fine enough for keeping the car in place. However with winter approaching and just the basic draw of having an operation ebrake, I wanted to delve into what could be wrong.
Searched these board and other subaru boards about possible problems. googled it, and then called both auto repairs and dealerships.
Google lists it has probably being a loose or snapped cable. After speaking with the service manager at a Subaru dealership north of Boston [Wakefield], he assured me the possibility of it "snapping" is just about 1% for subaru's
Most likely I'd be looking at a disconnected end at the brake handle or a broken brake handle. The other possibility was work brake shoes from an overzealous previous owner going wild with the brake up. But since I feel absolutely no tension or clicks from the handle, can i just assume that the problem lies in with the cable somewhere? Has anyone done cable fixes? It's so loose that i think the simple "adjustment" won't do it.
funny story - I knew my brake didn't work, but during the SL-i meet in RI, I was reaching for my camera to record a movie or take a shot while driving on the highway, and the strap dragged along the seat and YANKED the lever up. For a second I freaked, but then i calmed when i realized that my brake has always been crap. LOL - imagine if it still worked =O
