I've been on here a while and figured I might as well post my ride and see if I get any love for it. Slow but getting there...

Past:
http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/6112/dsc00776rcf3.jpg

Present:
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/6659/blackedout.jpg

Don't really have any real special mods at the moment. Running no fogs temporarily and I have a stockpile of mods still waiting to be installed.
Exterior:
- WRX 16s
- Gutted grille
- Blacked out headlights

Engine:
- Borla UEL reps
- 2.25" system
- Kakimoto R
- G2S1 intake pipe

Short term:
- Drop
- Front wind splitter
- Tint tails
- Rear diffuser
etc.

Absolutely fantastic work. Welcome and thanks for posting!

Thanks heaps! I guess one response is better than none, right?

Still need to install a few more things.

- Springs
- Outback RSB
- Updated tails, which will be tinted

Am also picking up a few cheap goodies when I get the money together. Getting the fog light replaced (finally!), GC shocks and vortex generator.

Installed the new strut bar today. Noticeable turn in difference...
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/6428/strutf.jpg

Also got the new Kakimoto R on. Whisper quiet on idle and an aggressive noise on power.

*** EDIT **
Here's a quick video I took.

Took a few shots at a mate's place because of the great weather.

haha what's up mate?? Small world with the interweb eh!! looking good. what's next?

the blacked out headlights with the grill and lack of fogs looks very stealth

aurelius

Haha, thanks aek. I joined this site because I got sick of the lack of diversity and encouragement for non JDM parts, haha.

Right now i'm just working on maintaining it, buying little exterior parts here and there and improving the handling. No conversion yet because of the two more years left on P's.

Don't forget the blacked out lights  I love the blacked out look and plan on getting a re-tint and smoking the tails. I'm not enjoying the lack of fogs with the lack of fmic/conversion! There was a little incident involving a wombat that you can read on SubyClub lol.

Thanks! Glad to know I have a fan

Keep watching because i'm trying to have a mod a week. This week it was only small (tail light, all new clips).

ncie 2nd gen. that muffler is huge!!!
Haha, thanks. It only looks huge because the end pipe is a bit too long and I don't have a skirt on atm. Skirts are for girls

That should be filled within the next few weeks with a custom hks like rear diffuser. I used to roll with the mud guards but got sick of them breaking up the body lines.

Cash flow has been slow and i'm collecting funds for a major service

Replacement fog light finally came in and I added an engine cover. It will most likely be light mods in coming weeks.

looks good mate. did you want that specific gen 2 series 1 grill for the honeycomb mesh?? just a thought but the jdm grill you should try and hunt down is the gen 2 series 2 gt/rsb grill as it'll fill the gap down to your bumper better. since your car's so dark you don't really notice the gap anyway i guess. really digging the way your cars coming along...

I wasn't really looking for a grille until this popped up real cheap. I was going to just buy an RS badge and stick it on the mesh grille but this was only $20. I'm going to paint the surround gloss black because the chrome pieces are flaking out.

I've seen some series 2s running with series 1 grilles and the gap didn't see very visible. This is also my favourite stock grille. Thanks for the kind words!

Over the next few days, i'm doing a major service with head gaskets etc. While out of action it'll probably get dropped and HOPEFULLY projectors. Sell me yours aek? Haha

Thanks all!

Engine is out and head gasket replacement project is underway :(
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/3485/sadness.jpg

We expected the worst, with the engine fully overheating twice and water out of the headers and inlet. My face when we found out nothing was cracked. The heads were just torqued up to the old specs.
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/8021/shockedy.jpg

So then the luls began:
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1310/doridori.jpg
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/2599/lulzta.jpg

Teh luls ended shortly after when I sent my heads to get machined at a place that builds for STi. Pressure test showed that only one set of valves were pressurised. Hardness test proved that it's hardness level was at 0.6 when the standard was something like double of that.

One of the wheel bearings is also shot and the radiator turned out to be majorly blocked from Seal Up aka Chemi Weld, which lasted a good 6 months. If anyone wants to donate me a pillar pod or similar so I can manage my temps better then let me know :smt002 :smt002 :smt002

So I got another set of heads and will get them machined soon. I'm going to take advantage of the car on stands and finally install the RSB and springs. I'm also going to paint the intake manifold red because I can

aurelius

Finally fixed the head gaskets and the car is back on the road.

Installed the 18mm rear sway which I painted gold. Took a bit of fiddling around but I got it...
Wasn't the difference I was hoping for but is still noticeable.
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/5903/newrsb.jpg

Here's the RS grille painted black on my car:
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/6466/grilleupd.jpg

Should have the RS badge soon to cover up the badge holes. Will go well with the red L7 badge.
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/3664/brand39.jpg

I've got springs ready to fit but they're only a 20mm drop. Might trade them for 40mm lowered springs.

Currently trying to find a bonnet in my colour so I can scoop it and run my top mount transmission cooler

What do people think of 17x7.5 +20? Flush?

do you have any resonators before your muffler or is it just straight 2.25 pipe from the cat?

The car is looking great! Good work.

What do people think of 17x7.5 +20? Flush?
I have 18x7.5 +45 and they nearly stick out from the fenders, it would be "flush" fitment by most standards. +20 would rub badly and would look goofy. Rolling the fenders a LOT would help, but they would still stick out a lot around the lower portions of the body.

How the 18s look on my car, best shot I have of the offset...

Haven't mounted it yet, just mocked it up. Doubt there will be too much performance difference to be honest. Although I have heard people receiving a slightly less fuel consumption.

BG5guy
07-27-2010, 04:32 PM
i got those brackets on my car. From what i have heard the purpose is to allow more airflow into your FMIC or radiator. When you go past 45 the hinges shift and your plate shifts back, allowing higher air flow and better performance, so they say lol

aurelius

Wheels look amazing! You have to roll the fenders to get those babies on there?

aurelius

Wait for my new wheels and then judge the chrome.

They're only 7.5s so I assumed I didn't have to. Rears need to be rolled and that photo had the struts and an exhaust in the boot when it was taken. Gained a few degrees of camber in the rear it seems :)

Here's how it sits. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for in height...

I am now part of the 5x114.3 club with my new wheel adapters.

I can finally get the wheels i've always wanted for this project which are BBS LMs. Selling off all my parts I have left from the aggressive times to fund the fitment.

Have 6k HIDs now with all my globes replaced for whiter LEDs

Thanks everyone but that is just a chop (17" overlay).

The wheels coming are 18x8 +20, 205/40R17 aka 30mm from where I was with the other wheels haha. Rear camber bolts are sorted and hopefully the standard front camber will suffice.

Wheels should be here by the end of the week! Exited :D

Is that a Junction Produce badge on the hood? If not, curious what it is. Either way fits your car very well!

Thanks but it's a generic hood ornament. JP costs too much for what you get out of it...

Cheers man. My friend actually went to the Rota factory and confirmed they don't have them anywhere new anymore.

BMW E46 roof spoiler.

More work than I thought...

^^ What he said.

They will look great, but I think you will have to do what Girodisc did and make a widebody for them to fit, and look nice.

WESTcoast
05-06-2011, 12:54 PM
that are going to look nice! I see fender rooling and ALOT of pulling to get them to fit just right. A little bit of camber can never hurt any one. 235 will give you a nice stretch if cambered and fenders are rolled you will still be functional. cant wait till you put some tires on those! Are you on coils?

btw thanks for that info do you have any close up pics of roof spoiler? I'm wingless too and Im looking for ideas for the rear

bobbyjimmy

235 on an 8" isn't a stretch.

+1 to to roll and pull, and ALOT of camber - they'll fit.

aekOne
05-06-2011, 09:42 PM
yeah i've always run 235's on 18's and they're not stretched at all. even with 215's they stretched a little but weren't that bad

I'm not complaining, i'm more worried about the rear height...

No flares for me. Here are a few examples of how this sort of poke was pulled off without flares:
12mm less than mine

Thanks! I have a 'guard roller' aka pole that should suffice haha. There most definitely will be camber! I bought camber bolts all round and have front camber tops ready if needed.

I'm currently on STi struts with WL Flatout springs. If I have height issues with the rear, I can get KYB AGX for ridiculously cheap :)

Had to be trimmed on both sides. If I had another chance on buying another roof spoiler, I would go with the larger version because this one isn't too noticeable.

235 will 100% not stretch. Ideally i'd want 205s for clearance purposes. 215s for practicality...

But it looks like 215s are the choice in this situation.

I'm more about cosmetics over performance at the moment.

This was just a test fit with tyres. Tomorrow I am going to get KYB AGXs because currently the spring rate is too soft. Hopefully that will solve the suspension problem. If there is time, I will roll the guards and get it mounted!

I returned to this forum to find out my old tyre brand only to see that my thread is still alive! haha

Well this car was sold two months back and I have been taken away into the RWD darkside.

The roof spoiler is off a BMW E36. Minimal work was required to get it fitted.

Looking back, I must agree that the chrome strips and hood ornament should have been taken off but I had to start somewhere. I've learned many lessons from this car and have applied it on my current.
