I have a dark blue BD5. Thinking about painting the 16" snowflakes gold, bronze, or gunmetal. Can't decide. Any thoughts? Also, off-the-shelf I have only found duplicolor wheel paint. What other options do I have?
Thanks.

While were on the topic of wheel color.. what subaru paint color do you think would be closest to the stock GTB wheels:

I have a set of these I want to re-paint / clear in the subaru factory color.. yet i have NO clue where to start looking. Someone mentioned its close to the color of the outbacks 2-tone bottom half color.. anyone have pics we might be able to compare?
I think these wheels in stock color look GREAT on silver BD's.
Props to Reuben since its his car in the pics!!

digi - print out a hi-res pic of the wheel, and take it to Sherwin Williams or a decent paint store (automotive related would be best) and get them to match the paint. Use matte paper if you can.

I don't even think we HAVE any type of paint place around here like that.. maybe NAPA? I'm not sure. How do they match the paint like that anyways?
I'm going to eventually be spraying it out of an actual spray gun.. along with the clear coat. I was just wondering if anyone could confirm the color IS in fact a subaru color code that i might be able to get. It looks VERY VERY similar to the OB 2-tone color.. which one.. i'm not sure. Cause i dont own an Outback!
Also.. any clue what anyone would CALL that color? sand? grey? sand-grey? lol
Also.. while were on the topic of wheels here.. i re-conditioned a set of the stock LGT limited rims (gold / silver ones) and need to re-spray them with clear coat. what brand should i use that will be good for wheels.. and any tips / tricks i should know about spraying over the polished finish i worked hard to get back? What should i clean em with prior to spraying? Thanks.

So where do the auto-repair places get their paint from? Use your fingers for the walking.
They paint match by visually matching the picture to a paint mix from a sample batch. Same as Home Depot etc do. It's not hard.
Of course it's a Subaru color, but much like the RS goldies and the BBS golds there isn't a known paint code. Hence why everyone uses off the shelf colors.
Clean the refinished wheels with soap and water, air dry them and use a tack cloth to remove any dust. Then use any paint clear coat (assuming here that you've already primed and painted). This is the same as any DIY wheel paint thread.
Don't start asking questions that have been answered by others in other threads...if you do you know what I'll have to do. ;)

Thanks for the input. As for where to find off-the-shelf wheel paint other than duplicolor? This has not been addressed in previous threads.

Painted my snowflakes today. I used graphite duplicolor wheel coating.
-2 coats primer, 3 coats graphite wheel coating, 2 coats of clear.
Let me know what you think.

sure it has. Krylon, rustoleum, even crap all purpose enamel paint has been used before. Wherever you find dupilcolor you'll find other brands.
Wheels look good btw! :)
I'd have gone with a dark silver or white to really set off the dark blue of the car, but I like contrasts like that.

Thanks for the compliments. I know they may not "pop" like if they were gold or silver. Im going for a kind of low profile/stealthy look. As for pics of them on the car, they are my winters, so I wasn't planning on putting them on until early December or so. This is the car w/ the summers on:

I am debating flipping the colors on my winter wheels - going apple green for the main color and black for the accent.
What do you reckon?
Here's a couple of pics to help (not actuals, from a repair I had to do last winter):

Car is lower now so I think I can pull off the bright green...

I think that would look pretty good. The black highlights would be more noticeable with the bright green paint. What are you using for paint anyways?

Krylon, rustoleum, dupicolor... Whatever I can get in two cans for cheap. I'll have to strip the paint and get on it pretty quick, winters just around the corner.

You using the aircraft aluminum stripper gel stuff?
I need to do this soon too.. but I don't think mine are going to get painted any time TOO soon.. as its not warm out anymore!

Dunno... I was just going to dismount the tires and use whatever paint stripper I can find.
I have a big indoor garage at work to use so not too concerned about the paint...it just has to cure etc. So I'll need a "baking room".
I've swayed between electric orange and sticking with the apple green...pretty much everything bright goes with a white car.

I have a quicksilver BD with JDM tails with stock snowflakes right now.
The snowflakes are getting old and the gold is just fading away, now it looks half gold, half silver.
Looking to get a set of 5 spoke impreza rims, what colours would look good? Was thinking of going gold again but I'm really getting bored, white gets dirty easily so thats why my final decision was black. Opinions? :)
EDIT: I saw 99gtlimited's quicksilver with the gold and yes, I believe I am bored of the gold..

These look great, but only for the winter. I'm looking for proper summer ones :)
Any ideas besides gold? I'm still thinking black... how do you guys feel?

Does it get dirty or scratched up easily?
Am I able to powdercoat white?

Every wheel will get dirty, cars ARE driven outside  Yeah, white is high maintenance and that's why I cleared mine and will wax them to aid in repelling brake dust. Also got dust sheilds on my list for when I put my OZ's on.
You can get any color in powder coating. If not, find another Powder Coat-er.
I painted my wheels in Dupont Basecoat/Clearcoat (1 coat in-case I want to change colors again)
