Whats the best way to do the mesh on a mesh grill? The first way I did it looks too hack (leaving the numerous mounting tabs and vertical bar in the middle). The mesh came up to the inside edge of the grill blank, but you can see a bit of a gap, and you can tell that the mesh was added to the grill.
I want a clean mesh install, so any tips of how you did it, please, let me know. Include pictures if you are able to. Thanks!

Thats almost identical to my current grill, except the STi badge. Can you get an up close pic of where the mesh meets the grill? Thats the ugliest part of my install. If you have a better way to do it than I do, than awesome. I had planned to paint those tabs and the center post black, but like I said, the actual mesh looks bad... In fact. I'm going to take a pic right now.

Yeah I'll have to find it somewhere or take a new one for you.

Ok, here are the pics. You can see the edges are not so nice. I've held the mesh in with twist ties, sharpied black in front so they blend in well. I had one helluva time cutting the mesh, and so it does not have a uniform edge and, where it was exposed is now rusting from the salt. The next install will need to be rust proofed better.

The mesh itself was from a mesh trash can. I bought it because I liked the size/strength of the mesh itself. Plus it came with a bunch of smaller mesh accesories, of which one of them I had planned to use where I will be cutting out a foglight cover to feed my intake.

Ive never done a DIY version of it but the ones that we Installed all summer had a lip folded with 90 degree angle so the mess is more bubbled out and then it you just clamp the back of the mesh to the back of the housing....Hope that helps....If you need more Ideas I might beable to draw something up

Well heres a few pics I just took, I think mine needs to be repainted, and my grill surrond is starting to fade off the chrome too so i'll work on that, but I hope these pics help somewhat.

I used automotive specific plastic tabs to attach it, got them from lowes, they have an awesome selection.

And in these pics you can see how I made those tabs on top longer to make them extend further and give the illusion of extending forever, I think part of your problem might stem from how small your mesh is, mine is a little larger so it doesnt really look as bad.
Peace,
Kyle

Ah ha. I thought you used something else, but you used the gutter gaurd. I picked some up. The mesh was $1.36 for the one sheet. Here's pics of the install:

I will most likely paint the bars in back black along with the mesh. I may or may not install the subie symbol again, but if I do, it'll match my upcoming interior mods. The subie symbol would be aluminum stars with metallic green backdrop. The interior sills are getting an aluminum color treatment, with metallic green designs. Should look pretty cool.

PWT- I used modeling mesh (really flexible, strong, fine metal mesh) from a crafts store, used about 5 layers, spraycanned it black and the tabs and stuff don't show at all...I also cut off the protruding part of the tabs for the hell of it, but its pretty subtle and very hard to see through...otherwise, I did it just like you.

What do you guys think if I put this in the middle of the grill? If it is thick, I think it'd look sweet sticking out with a deep mesh behind it:

Don't know if this is of any help, but when I meshed my grill I removed all the tabs, badge holder etc, then I as you call it 'Bondo'd in the gaps at the back to make a smooth surface, the mest was then cut to shape from the back, allowing some to cover the new flat edge (Ok I cut the mesh prior for this next step) while the bondo was soft I placed the mesh and used small interier trim screws to fix the mesh in place (these will unscrew when the bondo is dry). For the badge I did the normal color change and then filled the back with more bondo and placed a cap head screw in the middle (again giving a set in screw thread) when everything was painted etc its just a case of screwing everything in place and away you go, no lugs, no gaps and easy to do.

Ok here's the grill revamped. It was sprayed semi gloss black, with duplicolor wheel coating clear coat (a little more heavy duty than normal clear coat). Even after putting down tape, the mesh insert scratched the paint on the grill. I sharpied it to match for now, but I plan to repaint with the mesh in place. I also think I will add a symbol of some kind, just too plain otherwise.

BTW, the tape that is along the bottomof the lip can pull your chrome plating off, so be careful if you intend to remove it.

Looks good man. Next to my custom foglight covers, my grill is still my favorite DIY mod.
