Is there a way to bypass the power antenna ?
My stock deck will not turn on because of the power antenna.. Previous owner broke off the antenna some how, and now the head unit will not turn on because of it...
Is there some kind of sensor to make it think it's all the way up ?
I have even unplugged the antenna from the head unit, and it still didn't come on...
When the antenna IS plugged into the radio...the radio surges (IE: come off and back on to the sound of the antenna motor spinning "up")
I've tried unplugging the three wire plug from the motor, and the radio still would not come on. All i do usually is listen to cd's anyways...but the head unit refuses to turn on because of the antenna.
Rob - What's your opinion ?

there is nothing on the antenna that tells the radio where it's at...up or down. all the radio dose is give the antenna a power sig and it goes up, when it's lost it goes down.

dont think its the antenna look at the fuse behind the deck.

So i picked up a "universal power antenna"
so my main question to you guys is...
what color is the stock remote wire...it's not blue...
and which is the power wire ? (12v)
there are three wires that go to the stock power antenna at the moment, but i don't just want to start cutting wires and splicing power to remote...or vise versa...
I need my radio!
Rob - thanks ahead of time guys!

Bummer, man! I literally JUST replaced my antenna with a universal myself but I didn't take any pictures or anything. Do you have access to a multi-tester or anything? That's how I figured it out. Works perfectly. One thing I did run into though, is that the universal was about half an inch or so shorter in height than my stock antenna. So, I had to use some spacers underneath the base of the antenna to make it sit solidly and high enough once it was mounted. You should totally take pictures and write a how-to! ('cause I totally failed to do so...)

What color wires do you have/see? Maybe it'll strike my memory a bit if I could see the wires. Otherwise, I don't know. However, if you get a hold of a multi-tester, the power (12v) wire will be on any time the key is in the ON or ACC position. The remote wire will ONLY be live when the stereo is on and the radio/tuner is selected. This will ensure the antenna only raises when when the radio is active and not during CD/DVD/Tape/etc... playback.

If you've hooked up the new antenna and it's doing the same thing, it could possibly (most likely?) be the head unit itself. The main reason I would jump to this conclusion is because of the flashing face of the head unit. It looks like it is turning on and off over and over again. Have you tried hooking up the new antenna to a known working head unit?

okay....
Where is the Power Antenna AMP at on this 95' leggy ?
Let me know please...this is my last attempt to get this radio fixed...
I need to see if there are any broken/split wires leading to the amp..
Rob - thanks in advance...

Er, the power line that tells the antenna to raise/lower is wired right out of the main harness that plugs into the back of the headunit.
I think that there's a problem with the headunit - even with the radio on it shouldn't "surge" with the screen like that. That's not a stock unit (not for your year vehicle) - was it installed by you or someone else?

+1
Did you ever get to test the antenna on a known-working stereo/head-unit by chance? My bet is that the head-unit is at fault. Especially since both the old and new antennas are doing the exact same thing.

For sure. Something that doesn't work well, but DOES work is far better than something that doesn't work at all. :)
