Hi Guys,

Just new to the forum i am waiting to take delivery of a 1994 GT Twin Turbo Legacy from Japan and i cant wait to get it out on the road. I have attached some photo's

I have been told that Sunoco 94 is the best gas to run my car on is this right or is Shell 91 just as good.

Also i have been looking for a good after market exhaust and i am struggle to find a website which sells exhaust for my car a quiet exhaust (borla Hush) is prefered.....any suggestions.....also a BOV any recommendations??????/

Sonoco gas is higher octane but its pretty much garbage now

Shell 91 V-power doesnt have any ethanol

Try them both out and see what kind of conclusion you can come up too.

Thanks good to be here, yeah i have heard that Sunoco is full of crap and alot of ppl prefer the 91 V Shell, i think trying the two out is my only option to see which runs better...i will let you know.

Mine is just a naturally aspirated 2.2L. 1995 legacy L. I wish mine was turbocharged... One mod I'd recommend right off the bat is to replace your headlights with projector headlights. I can see a lot more at night now.

Congrats on your GT. Great looking car!

I would check the Austrailian vendors as they have had that car and could surely steer you in the write direction. And the stuff is priced well and the web sites are in english(although I'm sure exhaust components would be a fortune to ship)

Don't waste your time on BOV's and Turbo Timers, they are a waste of money and don't work well on a Subaru. Unless you are going to swap to some huge ass turbos that are pushing 30psi or something monstrous, the stock one works just fine. Aftermarket BOV's and TT's work great on other cars, but are the wrong idea on a Subie. Try getting a tune or downpipes, much better money spent IMHO.

A BOV works very well on the EJ20R... :smt023 And why should a turbotimer not work?

The way the oil circulates in an Subaru engine + turbo means the turbo timer isn't necessary. If you're at the track you're usually letting the car cool with the hood open anyway.

A TT is a "nice to have" mod that is more bling than anything.
The stock BOV on a Subaru is proven to hold pressure and venting to atmosphere is actually inefficient long term.

I'd take the cash and get a 3" turboback exhaust.

In NZ we used to call the BOV's "skank whistles"... everytime you let off the gas going round a corner, the cars would whistle and the girls would all turn their heads. :lol:

Hey, I admit I played with a BOV on my WRX for a bit. The sound is allot of fun for a while. When you start getting into tuning your car, you move onto other stuff that sounds way better, like a full 3" turboback, catless uppipes, and tune, you will never hear your BOV after that! That boxer rumble is like crack, I drove around without the radio on just to listen to it :lol:

Yeah i have to agree with 00legacy, that rumber from the boxer engine is what made me become addicted to Subarus.....Subarus are not a choice they are a lifestyle....

Heard alot about these 3'' turbo backs where can i find a reasonable priced one????? i am based out of Toronto Canada

I'm sick of telling people about BOVs and turbo timers so I'm just going to copy and paste from an old post so I don't have to retype it all.

Recirculated bypass is how the stock system works. Air is diverted via a bypass valve from just behind the throttle plate back into the intake path when the throttle plate closes, keeping the air from backing up in the system and causing compressor surge. A fully atmospheric blow-off valve dumps that air straight into the atmosphere, eliminating the air that is supposed to be coming back into the intake and causing a "cool sound." On a Subaru, the ECU is expecting air to be returned to the intake via a stock bypass/diverter valve but when you install an atmospheric blow off valve the air is not returned to the intake system and once the throttle plate closes you will induce a rich shift condition. Thus, its generally not a good move to put a BOV on because it isn't the best thing for the car. If you want more noise, get a 50/50 recirculated valve like what I have, made by TurboXS, GoFastBits, or your company of choice. This way you still get the noise and the metered air is also being returned to the intake tract."

Regarding turbo timers. Don't get them. Subaru turbos are water cooled, thus convection will naturally cool your turbo down, you don't need to circulate oil because the turbo never sees any oil anyway.

But you can run a normal atmospheric Bov on that engine without any trouble...

After shifting it`ll get a little rich, but only for a short moment, you won`t notice it. If your cars is decat and the exhaust is really hot, It`ll get a little "bang"...

There`s no problem with car`s running a maf and atmospheric bov`s. A lot of people do this, eg. on the supra...


If you get a 50:50 bov, there`s also air missing when the bov is dumping. It`s only half of the air missing with a atmospheric one, but that`s no difference...


Let`s say you can run it, but with absolute no performance gain...

Didn't mean to be harsh. Was having a rough day. Gorgeous car by the way. Just so you know, if you don't like your window rainguards I'd be happy to buy them from you! We don't have those here in the US and my car doesn't have AC so when it rains it would be nice to be able to crack the windows without getting rained on.

Yeah I posted it on Friday morning but by the end of that night I was quite "relaxed." When will you take delivery of the car? I was thinking of just getting some two piece Ventshades for the 2000+ Legacy from the dealer but yours that are actually meant for the late 90's body style would fit better. A lot of people don't like them, I just need them because of no A/C. Just keep me posted I guess.

Delivery in about 3 weeks or so...still looking for a decent exhaust new or used no bigger than 3'' and pretty quiet...i more in to performance than loud exhausts, any ideas or contacts????????

pretty sure toronto subarus would have some connections - the only issue is that you've got a twin turbo so the header is going to be tough to give you more flow, but you could easily do a 3" turboback. A good local performance exhaust shop should be able to adapt a WRX or STi exhaust to fit.

If you were in NZ I'd point you to Rage mufflers...

I also STRONGLY recommend you check out Reuben's "How To Convert to Single Turbo". It's extremely rewarding and makes the car more enjoyable and predictable to drive. You'll also be able to use more of the WRX stuff for exhaust/turbo upgrades etc.
